Product Description

The Staccatos were one of the top Canadian bands of the 1960s. They had a dozen Top 40 singles between 1965 and 1969 and were unique for the time in that they composed, arranged, played, sang and produced or co-produced all their own material. This compilation includes all their Capitol-EMI recordings - half of them on CD for the first time. The collection also includes rarities like their first indie 45, the five long sought-after `Wild Pair' tracks and three previously un-released songs. They later went on to world-wide fame as the Five Man Electrical Band, but this is where it all began.

This is a complete collection of the Capitol recordings, the Wild Pair tracks and some rarities. A two disc set.

THis is Ottawa's Five Man Electrical Band in their early days - both as the Staccatos - and as the Five Man Electrical Band. Everything offically recorded between 1965-1969 - with some extras! It begins with their independently released single "It Isn't Easy" - through their Capitol records singles "Small Town Girl", "It's A Long Way Home", "C'mon Everybody", "Let's Run Away" and right into their massive hit "Half Past Midnight". The 2 CD set includes the Staccatos LP and all their singles, a rare instrumental they recorded under the name "The Smart Set", The first offical FIve Man Electrial Band LP - along with the non LP singles "Catch The Love Parade", "Walker Street", "Didn't Know The Time", "(It Never Rains on)Maple Lane". Five tracks featured on the Coca Cola promotional LP called "A Wild Pair"(Which they shared with the Guess Who)" and three previously unreleased tracks - among them, a cover of Buffalo Springfield's "Sit Down I Think I Love You". It also has all 6 tracks from their final 3 Capitol records singles "RIverboat", Lovin' Look", "Sunrise To Sunset", "Little Bit Of Love", "Good" & "Baby". 51 tracks in all with a 16 page color booklet.

Terrific, catchy, and melodic pop/rock from the 1960s that should appeal to those who dig the big pop/rock groups of the era. Because these guys are Canadian, they never received the recognition they deserved outside of Canada. Any non-Canadian who gets to listen to this is very fortunate. If you love Gerry and the Pacemakers, Beach Boys, the Hollies, and all those big U.S. hitmakers, give this CD a whirl. These guys had just as much musical talent. I'm from Ottawa where these guys come from and so many people from here love them. Their songs stay in your mind for a long time. They still play together today as the Five Man Electrical Band. I've seen them play twice and they're great! A must own for Canadians who love nostalgia and non-Canadians who need to discover them.
