Review

"This is the most practical and complete book on fitting the body."  —Clotilde

Book Description

Presented in a new edition that adds updated pattern industry news and revised rules for selecting pattern size, this easy and practical fitting system requires no measuring, no drafting skills, no muslin mock-ups—and it works with all brands of tissue paper patterns. Real people of all ages are featured in photographs that explain the steps of cutting out pattern pieces, pinning them together, and adjusting the fit. Special attention is paid to tricky challenges such as accommodating a full bustline, adjusting sleeves, or reworking a garment to make it more flattering, as well as alternative fitting methods such as draping and computer design. Metric conversion charts, charts for comparing pattern company bodice measurements, and a history of American dress design (Just where did size 10 come from?) make this book a versatile reference.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent fitting resource, July 8 2001
By
Patricia S. Brenner (Sierra Vista, AZ USA) - See all my reviews
I LOVE this book. I love to sew, but have not sewn fitted clothes for myself because they never fit. I decided to give it one last try, using this book. IT WORKED! It turns out that I have a broad back and slightly larger bust ... and I have been using the wrong size patterns all these years.

The pattern alterations were relatively simple (I did them myself without a helper), and now have several beautifully fitted jackets and blouses. I highly recommend this book to the casual, novice, or even expert seamstress.

5.0 out of 5 stars Answers many of the most FAQ's about fit problems, Mar 20 2003
This book gives the clearest, most accurate fitting techniques I have ever seen in a home sewer's reference. It answers so many of the common sewing issues, and addresses common body issues. You will be so happy you bought this book. The photgraphs are clear, the language is easy tounderstand, and the whoel spectrum of fitting issues are addressed. You do not need to be plus-sized or petite to use this book - there are varying levels of every fitting challenge, and they are explained in terms that are easily applied to any of the big pattern companies' products.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thank you Pati!, Aug 29 2001
By A Customer
This is a very very good book for alterations.
There are dozens of color pictures and illustrations and clear words to guide readers to get better fitting.
I've read many of alteration books and this one is the best one until now.
The only one thing is there is no alterations for pants.
