Product Description

Product Description

"Fitted Knits" features 25 projects, beginning with simple T-shirts and shrugs and then moving on to more advanced jumpers, cardigans and skirts. It includes a comprehensive section covering the skills necessary to create a will-fitted garment, removing the guesswork from customising patterns. Each project includes customisation tips and tricks, describing to the knitter how to tell when and where increases and decreases should be placed to create the most attractive shaping.

About the Author

Stefanie Japel’s designs have been featured on popular knitting sites, such as Magknits.com and Knitty.com, and in books including Stitch ‘n Bitch Nation (Workman, 2004), Knit Wit (Harper Collins, 2004), Not Another Teen Knitting Book, (Sterling, 2006), KnitGrrl (Watson-Guptill, 2005) and Big Girl Knits (Clarkson Potter, 2006). Her website Glampyre.com receives over 14,000 hits per day. On it she posts her blog and sells original pattern designs and offers free patterns. At least six of her patterns have been used in knit-alongs on sites including Craftster.org and Bust Lounge. (Knit-alongs are groups of knitters working on the same pattern simultaneously.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful designs!, May 1 2007
By J. Hotham (Aurora, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have major issue with the previous reviewer of this book. Had they done even a little reseach on the author (she has a popular website, and just did an interview with Knitty.com), they would have realised that the top-down raglan is her trademark sweater. Implying that the author doesn't know how to do any other sleeve type is just baseless and petty; what knitwear designer in this day and age doesn't know how to do different sleeves? Come on. If you're unhappy with the sleeves, maybe you should use that Barbara Walker book, and tailor the patterns to your own liking?

And regarding the reviewer being "short and curvy...with a 36D chest"? I'm short and fat (I don't say curvy, that's being in denial) with a 40DD chest. Stefanie Japel has the best designs for the big girl that I've found outside of Big Girl Knits. And about that chest, dear reviewer? If you'd picked up that book, you'd know how to do bust shaping to make any sweater fit properly. Don't review a book based on your own shortcomings as a knitter.

This book is lovely. It includes a hard to find range of sizes, wonderful construction, beautiful pictures that fully articulate the designs. Of course, it would be wonderful if the models were in the same range of sizes the patterns come in, but fat girls don't sell books, unless those books are entirely devoted towards said fat girls.

Stefanie Japel has some other books on the go, and I know I'll be buying those too. She's a great, modern designer with amazing ideas.

5.0 out of 5 stars favorite knitting book, Oct 3 2007
By ginger (winnipeg manitoba) - See all my reviews
i own a large collection of knitting books and patterns, this is by far one of my favorites!!i am 5 feet tall and shapley(not fat)the patterns i have knit from this book have all been flattering.not only are the patterns fabulous they are all easy and quick to knit.so far as anyone implying that the author is incapable of any thing but raglan construction;thats the point!!she clearly states this at the begining of the book, it's all about raglan constuction.anyone who loves raglan constuction(like me)i highly recomend you add this book to your collection.

4.0 out of 5 stars Funky and challenging, Aug 30 2007

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
First off, I love this book; there are lots of great ideas in it, especially for non-pattern knitters.
The author definitely has a 'trademark' style, but there's still a LOT of variety in her designs. The use of colour is stunning as well.
I would HIGHLY recommend this book to adventurous knitters.
As for the 'raglan controversy', I really love that all of these designs feature this method and there aren't a lot of contemporary patterns that use it - if you think that you don't like this style, this book is not for you. It's easier to adjust this style to fit well than it is to do all those annoying calculations to resize a fitted sleeve (and lots less sewing!). I think that there could have been a little more information on how to tweak the patterns for size and different yarn (really I would give this book a 4.5), but there is a whole blog dedicated to the patterns in this book and lots of good tips there.
Sizing: the sizes in this book are quite comprehensive; you have to decide for yourself if you will like them on you!
