Why are you confused about what's on each DVD set?,
By Not American (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Flashpoint: Season 2 Volume 2 (DVD)
[Note: If I accidentially write "here", I mean Canada; conversely, "there" means the USA.]For those who don't know, Flashpoint was originally [exclusively] a Canadian show. CTV made it, paid for it, etc. So, for Season 1, CTV made 13 episodes. CBS liked them, bought them, and showed them. But CBS wouldn't "sign on" for another season, so CTV made a Season 2, consisting of 13 episodes. CTV showed them, and put them out on DVD as "Season 2". However, CBS said, "Hey, we'll give you a bunch of money to make 'the back 9'." ('The back 9' is a term used in US TV Land [USTVL] where shows are 22 episodes long. What USTVL does, however, with shows getting "just okay" ratings, or are new and the USTVL network wants to "test" the show is they will make 13 episodes of said show. If it goes well, the USTVL network greenlights 9 episodes to "finish" the season.... hence, "the back 9".) Anyway, what we've wound up with is "Season 2, Vol. 1 (and 2)" for Canadian audiences, which wound up being kind of surreal. See, the "CTV-only" Season 2 got released here originally as "Season 2" (long before American's got a "Season 2"), but what Canadians got was CTV's S.2 (consisting of 13 episodes). Then, when S.2's "back 9" got funded by CBS, and all 22 episodes had been made and shown on CBS in one, 22-week season (with a four month break between ep.13 and 14), they quickly released "Flashpoint S.2" down in the USA before the back 9 were even SHOWN on CTV. Eventually we did show them, and we put out a "Season 2, Vol. 2" DVD; as well as a newly re-labeled "S.2, Vol.1", which contained what WAS on the "S.2" that had been released here months and months before. Pandemonium reigned. And continues to reign. As of June 22, 2011, unless you are VERY aware of this issue, you could easily not have a clue what to buy. ("Season 2, Vol. 2? But I bought "Season 2" here in Canada months and months ago! WTF??"). To sum it up, here it is: There's a Canadian "Season 2" DVD set, which is the same as the Canadian "Season 2, Vol.1" set. If you have either of these sets, you'd have to buy the "S.2, Vol.2" set in order to finish the whole season. Or, you could have KNOWN these things were going to happen, waited until Nov. 19, 2010, and bought the Can. Season 2 (the **second** Can. release of S.2, not the earlier "Can. S.2", the volumes, or the U.S. "Complete Season 2" set. That one apparently only has the first 9 episodes of Season 2 on it, despite its labelling giving no clue to this!). There is no release date for Season 3 (Canada), and, in fact, I don't know if it's even been shown on CTV. (I never watch TV when it's on - commercials make my head hurt.) According to Wikipedia, CTV has aired the "13 episodes" that make up Season 3 between July 16, 2010, and February 6, 2010. No word on a DVD release yet. CBS showed the 13 Season 3 eps. between June 4, 2010 to Sept. 17, 2010, and they even released Season 3 on DVD on May 17, 2011. However, according to reviews of "S.3" on amazon.com, the American S.3 DVD set is some kind of mashup of S.2 eps, and S.3 eps, without regard to order of broadcast, or much else. Right now CBS is in the middle of showing "Season 4", but the 4 episodes they've shown so far are (according to IMDB& the CBS website) 3.8, 3.9, 3.11, 3.10. Apparently CTV *and* CBS have been showing episodes since early June, and in their words... "Currently, encore Season 3 episodes continue on Fridays. A new date for Season 4 premiere, previously announced as June 17, will be announced soon." How could that POSSIBLY be confusing?

waiting season 3,
This review is from: Flashpoint: Season 2 Volume 2 (DVD)
Visuals continue to be superb! Preferred first season comraderie and interrelationships between characters. Must have hired some new writer/producer, but still an exciting series. Next season?
