4.0 out of 5 stars Something For Everyone Nov. 2 2012

I'll begin by saying that I am terribly biased when it comes to Ms. Black. I love her work. I think her talent transcends the les-fic genre in many ways and I've never read anything by her that didn't I love.

As for anthologies - never been a big fan. On Amazon you usually get to read the first story as the sample and that one is usually fantastic so I end up buying it only to be disappointed because only about 40% of the stories appeal to me.

This was not the case with Flesh and Bone. Obviously the main difference is that this anthology is written by one author, yet none of the stories would lead you to realize that. (Hmmm, I never stopped to wonder if this would no be considered an anthology.)

Ms. Black covers a broad range of writing styles and her stories move from romantic to erotic to plain all out graphic and back again. But, each of these stories is just plain well written. She employs first person perspective, she plays with stereotypes, she works with and against conventions used in this genre and she actually offers up a few stories that are completely original - yes, original, which is always lacking in any of these anthologies.

(Warning: this book contains some very graphic sex scenes. If that's not for you, don't buy it and then write a review complaining that the book was horribly graphic.)

I enjoyed each story which has never been the case for me. But, like I said, I am very biased when it comes to this author's work. Even if I'm off a little and only 75% of the stories are engaging, then that's still better than most of the anthologies I've read.

3.0 out of 5 stars I don't know. April 24 2012

Will probably get chewed out big time about my review but I want to explain why I gave it three stars instead of the one star I wanted to give.

The only reason I would have given this a single star is because of my general tastes. I've known for a while that I can't stand erotic anthologies due to lack of character building. Now some of you are probably thinking, "Well if you knew then why buy it?" I have two reasons. One- I thought it would be different since all was done by one author (which I love) and hoped she took most of the stories from her previous books or would have continued from them. Two- I was hooked after reading the sample and didn't think it would go down hill from there.

Now when I put my personal feelings about anthologies aside then I'd say it was okay. The stories are written very well and are very descriptive. Thus the three stars.
