Review

Magnificent book.,Ingenieria Aeronautica y Astronautica, ... likely to be a success for staff and students... the book will sell well! , Explanations as found here are not generally evident in the literature,The Aeronautical Journal,

Book Description

Flight dynamicists today need not only a thorough understanding of the classical stability and control theory of aircraft, but also a working appreciation of flight control systems and consequently a grounding in the theory of automatic control. In this text the author fulfils these requirements by developing the theory of stability and control of aircraft in a systems context.

The key considerations are introduced using dimensional or normalised dimensional forms of the aircraft equations of motion only and through necessity the scope of the text will be limited to linearised small perturbation aircraft models. The material is intended for those coming to the subject for the first time and will provide a secure foundation from which to move into non-linear flight dynamics, simulation and advanced flight control. Placing emphasis on dynamics and their importance to flying and handling qualities it is accessible to both the aeronautical engineer and the control engineer.

Emphasis on the design of flight control systems
Intended for undergraduate and postgraduate students studying aeronautical subjects and avionics, systems engineering, control engineering
Provides basic skills to analyse and evaluate aircraft flying qualities

But the equation (13.21) from page 296 looks very strange to me. Can anybody explain it ? Thank You Very Much. J. RuthLand

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Window to Explore Flight dynamics, Jan 17 2002
By Muhammad Abdullah Mubarak Al-Mubarak - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Flight Dynamics Principles (Paperback)
This is a suitable textbook for students doing flight dynamics course. It was one of the 4 flight dynamics books I used in my course AE 426 at my university KFUPM. The others are Introduction to Aircraft Flight Dynamics, The Dynamics of Flight: The equations, and Dynamics of Flight. This review reflects my personal point of view concerning this book after a comparison I made between this book and the others motioned above.

1)Compared to (Introduction to Aircraft Flight Dynamics) and (Dynamics of Flight), this book is richer in information. It really gives more details. And this is something remarkable about it.

2)The book has very good balance between theory and application.

3)Simple to understand and it explains concepts clearly.

4) There are 9 excellent appendixes in this book that will help you refreshing your mind and can be used as summaries.

5)Unfortunately, students will find NO problems at the end of each chapter to exercise.

6)This book provides students with excellent number of examples. However, a lot of them are solved easily by PC programs like Matlab. Hence, this is the best book in flight dynamics (compared to the ones I mentioned above) to practice solving problems by software like Matlab. But, no PC programs are provided in this book. It assumes that you know one of the software used by flight dynamicists

7)Some of the examples in this book are among the problems I faced in my major exams.

8)It states the objectives in the beginning of each chapter.

9)Better figures are provided in this book compared to the others I used.

10)This book has made me very interested in further study in this complicated field of aerospace engineering.

11)It was one of the reference books that I used to do my projects. That is, it was helpful in doing my project.
