Product Description

Amazon.ca

It's hard to imagine two more talented hipsters than Floetry singer Marsha Ambrosius and emcee Natalie Stewart, a.k.a. the Songstress and Floacist. The U.K. duo's Floetic debut has it all--smooth R&B, soulful jazz, hip-hop, spoken word, supple ballads and a warmth that cradles the listener from beginning to end. In short, it's exquisitely, decidedly feminine. The pair occasional raise the roof with sizzling rhymes and beats, but they clearly place a premium on vibe, evident in Floetic's mostly chilled, after-dark feel. Jill Scott and Michael Jackson have already benefited from Floetry's deft songwriting; Jacko covered Floetry's "Butterflies" on his Invincible disc. A demo version of that song is included here, but that's the least of the bounty. "Hello" is pure honey with the women's silky voices braided in harmony while the dreamy, gently gurgling "Sunshine" is like a soundtrack to a daydream. Comparisons abound (Lauryn Hill-meets-Dionne Warwick as scored by a blunted De La Soul maybe?) but perhaps the best description of Floetic yet unearthed is "sass and soul." And, at almost 70 minutes long, it's a steal. --Kim Hughes

5.0 out of 5 stars Different CD's Oct 18 2004

I originally purchased my CD when it first came out - only to realize later when I went to buy replacement that many of my original songs were not on the follow up CD. For one the track 14 from the original CD was 'Subliminal' which is actually one of my fave's and on the follow up there was 'Possibilities'.

Don't know why they chose to follow up with an updated version of their album - but I guess many artist are doing that (i.e. Usher- at some point he'll have the 'final' version of Confessions)

AMAZING. Many songs on this album are a drag, and are extremely boring. But the six good songs are catchy, meaninful, with a soulful beat - great hip hop. I absolutely love "Floetic" "Big Ben" "Ms Stress" "Say Yes" "Hello" and "If I Was A Bird". I especially love "Floetic" and "Say Yes". Little drops of sweet heaven. All in all, quite a bland album with some genius songs, though. I guess it is worth buying for those songs.

OUTSTANDING!!!!! I think this CD is one of the best CD's I've purchased. I quite honestly didn't take this CD out of my player for about a year (admittedly, my player has room for two other CD's, nevertheless...) When I purchesed the CD, I had not heard of the group, however the music almost immediately pulled me in. I love the maturity, creativity, and emotion their music invokes. Marsha's voice is beautiful and really takes you away.

I just recently had the opportunity to see them live at Central Park in NYC on a glorious summer day. Fantastic!!!!! Probably better than the CD's. My spirit was totally uplifted. The combination of Marsha's voice and Natalie's acoustics was amazing and their energy permeated the audience. "Say yes" was unbeleivable - Natalie's acoustic touches and alteration of the beat, they nearly turned into a dance tune. Towards the closure of their concert they turned it into a "house party" - went through a compilation of current hip hopsters and R & B artists which had the crowd jumping. I would certainly pay to attend another concert.

I'm thankful they came along.
