Product Description

From Library Journal

A companion volume to the author's Elegant Stitches, this "embroidery idea book" is a collection of stitches useful for crazy-quilt and other stitchery projects. A major section of the book is devoted to flower shapes and stitches one might use to create them. For example, in stitching a starlike shape, such as a pansy, the outline or a chain stitch could be used for the stem; the Victorian velvet pansy or a cast-on stitch for the petals; and the fly-stitch leaf or circle buttonhole stitch for the leaves. Each stitch is illustrated with a line drawing and a photo as well as a written step-by-step description. Highly recommended for public libraries where demand warrants.

This is an excellent book. It provides you with many choices of stitched flowers both in silk ribbon and threads and yarns. FOr those who admire the intricate stitching and motifs that are original to crazy quilting this book will set you well on your way to adding many of interesting stitched florals to your blocks. It is a well done book, very good instructions , easy to understand and truly inspirational. I have read many cq books and find this the best one.
Not only does it give you the basics you need to get started adding wonderful embroidery to your quilting but it inspires you to adventure out and try your own designs.
This book is well suited to the beginner and the experienced stitcher who wants to add new techniques and ideas to your quilted pieces.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just gets better!, May 4 2001
This review is from: Floral Stitches: An Illustrated Guide to Floral Stitchery (Spiral-bound)
For those who have grasped the basic stitches, here is the intermediate to advanced stitchers stitch dictionary. I disagree only with one point in the previous reviewer's statement in that it is not necessary to have a knowledge of ribbon embroidery to find this book valuable. With so many new fibers to play with out on the market all you need is a complete stitch dictionary and then let your imagination take over. This is your book! If you had fun with her first dictionary "Elegant Stitches", then you are in for a treat with the second installment "Floral Stitches". Crazy quilters will have a blast with this book using floss and ribbon embroidery! If you are a beginning stitcher this book is not a good starting point. Buy Judith's "Elegant Stitches" and then graduate.
