Review

"A comprehensive guide to the Sunshine State's multi-use trails." - Dwight Kingsbury, Florida Bicycle Association; "Florida has long needed a touring guide to our wonderful bicycle paths and multi-use trails. These colorful, accurate, in-depth descriptions provide those touring the trails with a historical, naturalistic perspective to add to their cycling experience." - Linda Crider, president, Bike Florida"

Product Description

Florida's Paved Bike Trails offers the most comprehensive guide available to more than 40 paved bicycle trails stretching from Pensacola Beach to the Florida Keys, with information on projects in progress or in the planning stages. Location maps and a geographical and historical description of each trail are included, as well as access listings of trailside facilities and parking and information on basic bicycle safety and bicycle shops. And, unlike other bicycling books, this guide also provides information about parks, beaches, lakes, recreational areas, wildlife refuges, historic sites, and museums along the trails or in close proximity to them. Offering safe and controlled routes to ride, this book will serve beginning bicyclists, families with children, and experienced road cyclists looking for trails on which they can maintain a steady pace unencumbered by traffic and intersections. It will also be useful for rollerbladers, skateboarders, joggers, and walkers, and it includes information about equestrian trails that exist alongside bike trails. As the only single source of information on all the bike trails in Florida and an eco-tour guide to these routes, Florida's Paved Bike Trails is a must for everyone who enjoys the parallel pleasures of cycling and sightseeing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Made our vacation, Mar 6 2001

Thanks to this book we had a vacation of a lifetime. The author's knowledge of bike routes is unsurpassed. He took us to the Everglades where we counted 137 aligators as we rode by them. Also, he knew all the great parts of the bike lane from Key Largo to Key West. We traveled on all of them using his recommendations. When we got to the end of the good parts we did a reversal and it was just as enjoyable. His information was 100% accurate.

2.0 out of 5 stars Could be better, Jan 29 2009
By A. Douglas - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Florida's Paved Bike Trails (Paperback)
This book gives a very good description of what one can see along the trails but lacks information on intermediate trail access other than what the authors calls the 'Trailhead'. Perhaps some people want to start on the other end or in the middle but there is no description on how to get there. In this age of GPS units in almost every vehicle, GPS coordinates for trail access points are a necessity but none are listed. Some people run shuttles in order to do sections of trails only one way but there is no help, especially for folks that come from far away to ride these trails. The maps are adequate at best. The Office of Greenways & Trails brochures are much better in listing access directions.
