Book Description

Nov 24 2009 0321679989 978-0321679987 1
The type that designers use can say as much to their audience as the actual words on the page.  But until now, Web designers have had an extremely limited palette of typefaces from which to choose -- essentially, Arial (yawn), Times (yawn), and Georgia (yawwwwwn). Design is about overcoming the limitations of a medium, and Web design is no different. In this book, Jason shows Web designers how to apply the principles of fluid typography, Web-safe fonts, downloaded fonts, and type on images to create robust scalable designs without resorting to type in images or Adobe Flash.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff May 3 2010
Format:Paperback
This is a great book and worth every penny. The contents are well written and relevant to today's needs.

It does come up a little short on explanations and could delve deeper into the many points it introduces, though. I found I had more questions after reading it than I did before. Without this book, however, those questions wouldn't have come up.

If your into this kind of stuff, this is one book you should read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good beginner primer on handling type on the web Aug 28 2010
By N. Wu
Format:Paperback
Informative & helpful beginner primer on handling type on the web. Useful resource list, current information (with an online support website for any updates since being published) and consideration towards various browsers with practical tips prove this book to be a worthwhile start for a novice. However, an underlying tone of do as I say, not as I do (thus, the poorly designed & "safe" typographic choices in the templated page layouts; the examples provided were better designed). Written in a direct yet thoughtful point of view, it explains how web browsers operate using examples and case studies where applicable. Reader-friendly & digestable (I finished it in less than a week when I had spare time).
