About the Author
P.J. Harari and Dave Ominsky co-authored this book while pursuing their MBAs at the Anderson Graduate School of Management at UCLA. However, it was while working as an attorney prior to enrolling in business school that Harari first came upon the idea for a Spectator Guide. Her clients often conducted business meetings at basketball or hockey games and she spent her time feigning interest or pretending to understand what was going on.Harari went in search of a book of rules hoping to solve her dilemma. Surely the local library would have something, she thought, or perhaps a local bookstore. But she had no luck. She resorted to teaching herself football by watching games on television, weekend after weekend of sitting alone in her living room. Harari did the same with hockey and basketball. And as her expertise grew, she was visited by peers, male and female alike, who would close her office door and quietly confide that they knew nothing about sports and desperately needed or want

Wonderful,simple exposition of a sometimes complicated sport,

I came upon this book as a complete novice to the game of football (Call me un-american as you will, but I've just always been an non-athletic type).Aside from a few games I went to with my family,I simply had no exposure to the game.The games became a confusing blur to me. I then fortunately came upon this book..This book started with the basics of football (the field,how it is played,it's history,the equipment, et cetera). After that, a wonderful review of both the defense and offense and all the actions they could take It then moved on to the positions and all the actions they could take ( This was of the most interest to me because this has always been the part I've had the most difficulty with). This, along with the section on plays, were essential to my growing knowledge of football. The last chapters on the essential players and coaches of football proved to be a great appendix to reference back too. All in all, a great guide to football for someone who has no knowledge of the sport.

Answers every important question you could have about the rules and play of football (College and NFL). Gives you the all important information. Not overly wordy or drawn out. Very clear and well organized. Has a good glossary of terms. The best I've found.

This is a little book that is packed with information that helps a beginner get oriented and understand the basics of the game. It's the best thing of that type that I've been able to find. I just wish the publisher or the author would update the book, which is a 2006 reprint of a 2002 edition.
