About the Author
Nancy Lee Cecil, PhD, is a professor of education at California State University at Sacramento. She has a rich background, having taught in public schools in upstate New York, the inner city of Savannah, Georgia, and in the U.S. Virgin Islands. As a local, national, and international speaker, she offers workshops that focus on the literacy needs of the increasing number of diverse learners in North American schools. Dr. Cecil has written many professional articles about current concerns in literacy education. She is also the author of over a dozen books.

This book is awesome. If you want to teach elementary students how to write poetry and you aren't sure how...this is definitely a book you need to have. It explains what you should do as an intro activity, what you can do to teach them how to write it, and ideas of what to do afterwards. It really is a great book and worth every penny.

This book is one of the most loved and most used tools in my professional library. It makes poetry accessible to every child with the use of "ladders" and several examples from different levels of ability. The patterns are clearly spelled out and my third graders were usually quick to catch on. The book is further divided by levels of difficulty, making this a one size fits all type of resource. I am today ordering my second copy, as someone borrowed it last year and liked it so much they "forgot" to return it! If you teach poetry, you need this book!We even use the "If It Weren't For You" poem as a Mother's Day gift project. This book is worth every cent. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful
