Still a fresh voice in music...,
By Jim Duggan (Calgary, Alberta Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: For True (Audio CD)
Trombone Shorty remains one of the most difficult artists to classify. Jazz seems to have adopted him, but his sound incorporates jazz, modern influences, vocals, and of course the much maligned and ignored trombone to create a distinctive sound. This album picks up where Backatown left off and yet does not sound repetitive.I can't recommend this enough if you are looking for a fresh sound and voice in music!

T.S. rocks!,
By TurkeyVegas "Steve" (Turkey Point Ontario) - See all my reviews

Excellent music - just as good if not better than his first proper studio album. Rock-funk-jazz-pop all rolled into one like nobody else. His live show is outstanding too!

Lives up to the energy of Backatown,
By Andy L. - Published on Amazon.com
After being blown away by Backatown, his previous album, I was a little apprehensive about whether Trombone Shorty would deliver the same energy and character, or would this album feel like 'more of the same'. So, I took the album out for a spin, literally, with an hour long bicycle ride. I did the same with Backatown, and ended that ride with more energy than I started with. For this album, I can say that my experience was just as exhilarating. This was another dynamic album that I really enjoyed. If you want to get a good feel for the best of this album, check out these tracks: "Do To Me", "Buckjump", and "Then There Was You". 15 of 15 people found the following review helpful

I've been a fan of Trombone Shorty for years - and have been highly anticipating this CD's release. He has definitely raised the bar with this one. I dare you to listen to this CD without moving some part of your body...you can't! Fantastic combination of unclassifiable jazz-funk-rock instrumentals and vocals. "Buckjump" sucks you in - and the rest will not let you go.The instrumentation is tight. The beats are hot. Crank it up...it's an instant party. 20 of 25 people found the following review helpful

Funky as funky can be.,
By Ricky Cash - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: For True (Audio CD)
This album is so funky I put in nose plugs and covered my head with a plastic bag in a room full of scented candles and the funk still flowed through. High energy, impeccable musicianship, mixed with down and dirty compositions make "For True" a real triumph to the highest degree.Ain't it amazing what these kids can do with real musical instruments these days. |
