From Amazon.com

The hardworking Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball star in the urbane and witty Forever Darling, a 1956 romantic comedy, made at the height of the couple's popularity as co-stars of I Love Lucy, about the difficulty of forging marital harmony. Arnaz plays unpretentious, visionary chemist Lorenzo "Larry" Vega, whose passion for working on a powerful chemical insecticide for the benefit of humankind means little to his wife, Susan (Ball). A creature of high society, Susan is conflicted about her destiny. Should she be concerned with acquiring a bigger house and socializing with the right people, or should she follow Larry as he takes his insecticide on a two-year field study in tropical jungles? Attempting to guide her toward the right decision is a dapper, guardian angel, who happens to take the form of James Mason because Mason is Susan's fantasy man. The script by Helen Deutsch (I'll Cry Tomorrow) indulges I Love Lucy fans with plenty of slapstick set pieces plugged into an extended camping scene. But there's also some flashy banter--Arnaz is very convincing putting well-heeled snobs in their place--and a very clever sequence in which Susan imagines herself as the heroine in a movie she happens to be watching. (A movie starring, yes, James Mason.) There's a fun, special feature in which Arnaz and Ball take time out from production on their television show to plug Forever Darling and reveal the secret of a truly happy marriage--and then get into a beef. --Tom Keogh

This movie is alright, not one of their funniest. If you want this as part of a collection, then buy it. However, if you want this to see this for some laughter, it's just alright.

2.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly unfunny, Oct 4 2008

Susan and Larry Vega (Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz) have been married for seven years and are beginning to go their separate ways. Scientist Larry has developed a new insecticide and wants go on a camping trip to Yosemite to test it on the local mosquitoes. Susan hates camping, but her guardian angel (who looks just like James Mason) convinces her to go with Larry.

What a terrible movie. Coming only a year after the heartwarming and very funny The Long, Long Trailer, this movie suffers from a miserable script and even worse direction. While Desi plays an intelligent and admirable man, Lucy is a rich snob whose nagging and fault-finding are pathetic, not funny. The whole James Mason-Angel thing doesn't work at all. He doesn't have any purpose until the last minutes of the story; up till then he's kind of creepy. The story moves at a snail's pace and could have been done in thirty minutes - minus a lot of the mean-spirited marital bickering.

This is a surprisingly unpleasant movie from America's sweethearts, made just four years before their divorce.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forever Darling-forever wonderful!!, July 16 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Forever Darling (VHS Tape)
In the year 1954, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz made a wonderful movie: The Long, Long Trailer. And they decided to do it again in 1956 when they made this other wonderful show: Forever Darling. Most people say they like this one better but I recommend both greatly.

Susan (Lucille Ball) and Larry (Desi Arnaz) Vega get married. Seven years later, they start to go their own way. They go a while this way-wanting their own way, having things done without the other....But Susan starts to relize what is happening with the help of her gardian angel (James Mason) she is able to change all of this. At first she thinks that she is just seeing things, but the doctor asures her everything is okay. But she does really see one.He tells her that if she does not change the way that she and her husband are going, they will start to have some problems. So Susan starts to do something about it.

My favorite part is when Susan and Larry are about to go to bed and they fight; I think Lucille Ball is the funniest in that scene.I truely do recommend this movie to everyone. I know you will like it. You cannot watch tis movie once. It is just simply to great to miss.
