Hilarious Companion to the Movie, April 22 2008
By Andrew Shaffer "Author, Blogger" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Forgetting Sarah Marshall (Audio CD)
Like other Apatow productions, the music in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" doesn't take a backseat to the action--it's integrated into the film. If you loved the movie, you'll find most of the actors' musical performances here. Russell Brand's "We've Got to do Something" is both funny and catchy, while Jason Segal's "Dracula's Lament" is one of the oddest songs ever written. We're missing the two funniest songs in the film: Jason Segal's depressing "Muppets Theme" and his original untitled composition from the last 15 minutes of the movie ("You're pathetic, Peter...").
Like any good Hawaiian soundtrack, we're also treated to Hawaiian versions of American pop hits: "More Than Words" is golden, while "Everybody Hurts" is actually more tolerable than the original. Grammy-award winning Hawaiian musician Daniel Ho contributes here under the moniker "The Coconutz". The additional tracks that round out this collection (material from Cake, Belle & Sebastian, the Bird and the Bee, and more) are pleasant but forgettable.
Incidentally, if you're looking for funky "Superbad" composer Lyle Workman's original musical score, you're out of luck. None of his compositions are included here (unless he's performing under an alias...), nor were they released separately.

I'm a fan, April 29 2008

Not everything on this disc is something you'll want to play and play and play, but there are some gems. The particulars are the ones that are in the movie:
"Inside of you" is just hilarious. It's as funny in its full length form as it is in its abbreviated edition in the film.
"We've got to do something" almost sounds like a real Earth-day anthem.
Jason's Dracula lament is just funny... people will look at you oddly when you play it, but they'll like it.

Loved this soundtrack. Wish there was more Dracula songs in it or at least extending the versions. Loved the Hawaiian version of Nothing Compares to You.
