Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Full Cycle's core members of Roni Size, Suv, Krust and Die spent six years sniping innovative twelves from their studios in Bristol before the majors finally started reaching for their chequebooks--Giles Peterson eventually clenching the deal for his well respected Talkin' Loud. A couple of singles and a slew of remixes followed before this album was released to critical acclaim. Switching between the minimal to the full, oppressive to the inviting, "New Forms" nods its head to the jazz experimentation of the sixties. At the same time, it retains a cutting edge feel, proof that the sound of Full Cycle is, without any doubt, one of the most advanced operating within drum and bass. "Share the Fall," captures the spirit of the whole album with harsh bass stabbing at clicked breaks and tumbling rolls, the trashily EQ'd vocal slicing apart a strung out midsection and hazy atmospheres before the beats solo out to stalk individual members of the roaring crowd. As at home in a club as it is in a car stereo or living room, "New Forms" has proved to be a seminal album that, though uniquely drum and bass, aspires to something much larger.--Kingsley Marshall

--Jacques Denis

5.0 out of 5 stars Challenges Goldie for the Crown, Nov 16 2003
Roni Size stakes a claim for being the top name in drum&bass with this Mercury Music Prize winning effort, also by chance a double CD set like the aforementioned's "Timeless". The sound is a different end of the genre though, utilising live instrumentation more, particularly the live bass, with the seminal "Brown Paper Bag" a good example.

3.0 out of 5 stars Your okay d n b album., Jun 16 2003

I picked this up yesterday while browsing through a music store after work. It was a debate between this, Clinic, or Dieselboy and another CD which i decided I was getting - Unkle. So i ended up getting this and Unkle. I listened to the first CD last night, and the only way I can possibly put it is that it's an 'okay' CD. I've listened to half of disc two today, and I cant say it's really changed my view on it. The drum n bass is okay, very few artists can really make inventive drum n bass these days, Panacea and the Darchives maybe being a couple. I actually picked up New Forms, because I couldn't find the newer Reprazent one. What I mainly dont like about this double disced CD is that there aren't as many vocal tracks as there are in In The Mode.
Without something to help alleviate the tediousness of a genre like d n b, even the most hailed artists can become quite mediocre at their best. The tracks simply get boring when they hit the 2 minute mark since a lot of them lack variation. At the end of it all, it leaves you with nothing new, nothing extremely danceable if you dont include jumping around as dancing, and nothing really innovative. It's okay, but no where as inventive as Amon Tobin or the like. I wish I could give this a 2.5 just to show the epitome of an average CD.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wow, what a disappointment., April 9 2004
Ok, I've only heard a few songs from this Dj, so I finally decided to check out one of his CDs and see if he's as good as his hype. This CD does nothing but reminds of why I should of kept my $20. Railing is the only thing worth listening to. Other than that, just walk past this album and look for something better.
