Book Description

Nov 15 2007
Born on a Friday, Sophie Winters has always been a loving and giving child, who'd do anything for her family. Yet her father, Bill, has always seemed to resent her. For her mother's sake, Sophie learns to live with Bill's animosity - until the night he drunkenly forces himself upon her. Left pregnant and ashamed at seventeen, Sophie doesn't know where to turn. So when she meets the charming Ben Lewis and he offers her refuge at his mother's hotel, she accepts. At first it seems that Ben and his mother are quite the good Samaritans. But there is little goodness in the Lewises' hearts. As Sophie realises their dark intentions, a web of danger and deceit wraps itself around her. She knows if she is to survive, she will have to fight for all she's worth...

5.0 out of 5 stars Forsaken July 1 2008
Format:Hardcover
Sophie is a 17 year old girl that any parent would love to have for a daughter, that is with the exception of her father who seems to resent her. One night Sophie's father comes home drunk yet again, only this time he forces himself on his daughter, and Sophie is left ashamed and pregnant. She runs away from home and meets Ben Lewis an American. Ben and his mother offer to help Sophie, but little does Sophie know they have their own reasons for wanting to help. Sophie is now in for the fight of her life, as are the other girls Ben and his mother say they want to help. This is a real page turner wrapped with suspense, and has a shocking conclusion. Another excellent read by Rosie Goodwin!

1.0 out of 5 stars Forsaking Interest, or How to Write About Lurid Subjects in a Boring Way May 12 2013
By ReasonableGoatPerson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
It takes a special talent to write a book about rape, baby farms, white slavery, forced confinement in a mental institution, and murder, and have the thing be boring. Rosie Goodwin's managed to do it with FORSAKEN. That, I must say, is quite the accomplishment.

I saw the plot summary and was hoping for some V.C. Andrewsesque action. Don't expect it; this book isn't even fit to be Andrew Neiderman's toilet paper! For real.

Plus, slut-shaming. People encounter our oh-so-virtuous heroine and think, disapprovingly, "she's single & with child? But she doesn't seem like that kind of girl." True, the author doesn't necessarily feel how her characters feel, and the book does take place in the 1960s when a lot of people thought that way, but it bothered me because it was thoughts of characters we're meant to like, and seemed designed to score points for the heroine. See, the truth will come out about her rape, after which they'll realize she isn't "that kind of girl" and therefore they can fully love her. Implying that a female who has consensual sex outside marriage doesn't deserve love.
