Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The Fotodiox Minolta MD/MC Rokkor- Sony (a) Lens adapter allows you to place your favorite Minolta MD/MC Rokkor lens on your Sony Alpha A-Mount camera body. This adapter gives you the ability to use your irreplaceable prime lens and saves you the cost of purchasing new lenses. The adapters are precision made to insure the perfect fit. The lens will fit physically, but the automatic diaphragm, auto-focusing, and other functions will not operate correctly while using this adapter. In this case, -Inch stop-down mode-Inch will need to be used when metering, since the lens does not have the ability to have its aperture controlled by the camera body. You can shoot in manual or aperture priority mode. Infinity focusing is guaranteed.

Product Description

If you have a SLR or DSLR camera and other maker/mount lenses, the Fotodiox Mount Adapters allow you to use your lenses on the film/digital camera body. Sharing lenses has some distinct advantages. Certain prime lens just can't be replaced, and you save cost of purchase lenses. Fotodiox offers a range of adapter from large format to smaller format digital adapters. Adapting larger format lens, i.e., large format - medium format, medium format - 35mm, excellent edge-to-edge sharpness; and the smaller 24x36 mm image field helps minimize the effects of lens distortion and aberration.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fotodiox Lens Adapter Minolta MD to Sony Alpha Sept. 18 2012
Verified Purchase
The Adapter I received, fitted my Minolta MD lenses very well however, the fit to my Sony A57 was loose and wobbly. My 20mm f2.8 and 28mm f2.8 lenses did not work well as focusing to infinity was an issue. But that is OK. I sent the flawed adapter back 3 weeks ago. I just hope the long wait will be worthwhile when I eventually receive my replacement Fotodiox adapter. The physical build, feel and visual inspection showed the adapter to look and feel well constructed. Apart from my one issue, loose fit, I could be very happy with this product provided it fits my equipment. I do hope the wait for my replacement is worthwhile.

1.0 out of 5 stars Working but not as expected Aug. 13 2012

This mount adapter is intended to re-use MD-MC Rokkor lenses on the Sony Alpha body. You should know in advance that it is just a piece of hardware with no electronic chip, just for you to be able to attach the MD, MC lenses to the new Sony Apha body without being recognized by the body, it meant that you will use those lenses in fully manual mode ( aperture, focus ). I knew it,accepted it and bought it. At the rear end of this mount, it has 02 piece of glass ( not plastic ), one convex and one concave placed againts each other. I tried a few shots and the result cannot be acceptable. In the very center of the image, the subject is there but very unsharp, all the corners are blurred. My old lenses are 28mm2.8, 50mm1.4, 135mm2.8, so, nobody can blame on the optical quality of these lenses. By removing the 02 pieces of glass, the whole set is intended to be transformed as a macro lens but again, the result is still unacceptable. The quality of the 02 pieces of glass is no better than any cheap magnifier glass ...
Fotodiox may have a good intention to help old Rokkor Minolta lenses could be re-used, but technically speaking, the result may ruin the Fotodiox name. I paid something to learn an experience.
Should I recommend it to a friend ? You got my answer.

Step one is to set your camera to Manual Focus. Step two is to page through your camera's menu, find "Release w/o Lens", and then select "Enable". Then you're all set.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for attaching my Minolta MD lenses to Sony a65 Jan. 11 2012

Since older Minolta MD lenses are much cheaper than the newer lenses, I thought I'd give this adapter a try with my $20 Minolta lens. It works great - with one caveat. There are no instructions and I had a bit of a problem figuring out how all three pieces fit together.
Here's what worked for me.

First - attach the adapter to my Sony camera - Red Dot to Red Dot.
Second - attach the Minolta lens to the adapter - you have to go slow and figure out how it fits together - Obviously you want the numbers on top, so take your time.

I called the Adapter people and they said they are working on instructions for all their products, but they are not available yet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Considerable Searching May 24 2012

After numerous attempts to locate an adapter to utilize my Minolta MD lenses on my recently acquired Sony A55, I didn't believe such an adapter existed. Even an inquiry to Sony Tech Support failed to provide conformation that such a adapter was available anywhere. One more attempt on Amazon found the long sought item and I immediately posted my order. I have tried the adapter on my MD lenses and it works perfectly; easy to use, no vignetting, and a unbelievable savings over purchasing new lenses. I would recommend this item without any reservations.

4.0 out of 5 stars It Works But Need Help From Fotodiox Tech Support June 14 2012

When I first mounted the adapter to my Sony A500 I got the error message "No Lenses Attached Shutter Is Locked". I was ready to return it but decided to give Fotodiox tech support a call first I talked to Jeff and he suggested a couple of changes to the camera settings. After making the changes the adapter worked as adverised. Not only can I take pictures with my old Minolta branded lenses but Minolta compatible lenses work also, such as Tokina, Kiron, and Soligor. Kudos to Jeff. He was extremely helpful. I give 5 stars for tech support and 4 stars for the product only because it is a little to clumsly to use. Should any of you out there need to call Fotodiox tech support here is the number 847/201-4623 Option 3.
