I just past ITIL exam and bought this book few months ago as one from where I planned to prepare for exam.

It this book readable - NO! Extremely dry
Shell you be able to pass ITIL only with this book - NO! Not if you are not ITIL expert!
Is this study guide - NO? This is not study guide. The title is wrong!
Are there practical examples? - A few (less then 5)
Print and graphic - The list expensive printout and very pure graphics. Most figures are black and white copy of color original. Not easy to read and follow.

So why I gave this book a 2 starts? Because this is more a short reference ITIL pocket book then tutorial. Once when you have a solid knowledge about ITIL (picked from other sources and practical experience) then you will find value in this reference book. You can quick compare different processes and pick up key concept of each phase.

The mind maps are very practical but difficult to read in the paper version. I can understand why more effort is not added hire.

Also 80 exam questions are pretty close to the real one, but it was only 80!

I will keep this book in my bookshelf as ITIL pocket reference guide only.

Lacking in content May 10 2011
By Ray - Published on Amazon.com

For the price this small format (8x6 1/4" thick) paperback is lacking in content. The print is small and light in ink. 30 pages contain basically an outline format with definitions and goals. The next 30 pages are called mind maps; basic digrams so small you can hardly read them. The next 30 pages are sample questions but due to licensing rights, they are not actual questions from the test. 6 pages of acronyms/glossary finish the book. Seems like its alot ~100 pages, but it's a small format softcover worth in my opinion about $9.99. It is also only recommended as a guide after you actually take a real ITIL course.
All the information in this book can be obtained off of the Internet for free. Very disapointed and being returned for a full refund.

Good Summary Reference Oct. 21 2009

This second edition of the Study Notes is useful as a final review in preparing for ITIL V3 Foundation exam, if you already have knowledge ITIL processes, or attended a course. Each phase and relevant processes are explained in terms of goals, basic concepts, and key terms. OGC MindMaps are exhaustive, but needs a magnifying glass to go through it to understand the inputs and outputs for each process. It would have been better if it is in bold print. Exam Hints and 80 Practise Exam Questions with Answers are a definitive plus for the final prepartion. This book can used as quick reference in future.
Passed on first try! Only 3 questions wrong!!!! Nov. 19 2010

What can I say? The book worked. I've got to admit that I used a lot of material found on the internet too (try […] ), but the book still proved to be invaluable to organizing my understanding of the material. One of the more helpful aids in the book was a number of pages of "mind maps" near the end that show how the 5 different phases of SDLC relate to one another. From those I made my own diagram of the different SDLC phases and the processes and functions that fall under them. That became my primary "cheat sheet" (for use on mock exams for educational purposes) and made it easier to understand the reasons why the answers on the tests were correct or incorrect. The book doesn't provide real-world examples of the ITIL concepts like some of the pricier training materials, so this book is probably more suited to those who have some experience in an IT service environment. It's a hard test you're going to have to prepare for either way and this book is definitely worth the price for the edge it can give you.
Great for my cram session. Feb. 1 2010

I just recently attended a ITIL V3 Foundation 3 day course. The day after the class concluded I took the test and passed (just barely) with a 27 out of 40.

A lot of ITIL is common sense practices but unless you have worked in an IT operations environment where you actually interacted with the service desk and change management and fulfillment you might not grasp this info quickly. I used this book as a cram guide in addition to the info and documentation that I was provided in the course and I passed. This guide is quick and concise with providing info on the different processes. I recommend it to anyone that wants a study guide to supplement the trainign they are getting.

Good Study Guide for the Exam Jan. 16 2010
By Boris Lyubomirsky - Published on Amazon.com

the book was a very helpful study guide for the V3 Foundations Exam and was a good compliment to my training class. The part I liked the best was the 80 sample questions at the back of the book. The actual exam is 40 questions so I got to practice the test twice - good practice for someone that has not taken a multiple choice test in a few years. The only downside to the book was that some concepts were not explained in adequate detail. On a couple items I had to refer to my training class notes.
