Fractured Light [Hardcover]

I found myself reading Fractured Light late into the middle of the night, telling myself I'm almost finished just a few more pages. I really enjoyed this book despite the fact that it followed your typical Paranormal YA story line of where there is a girl who has powers but is hiding it, a guy who falls in love with her and she with him but they are forbidden to be together and of course the dangerous enemy. I loved the uniqueness of the Auras, the characters were very likable and it was all incredibly fast paced that I couldn't help but love Fractured Light.

I loved Llona's character especially when she burst out of her shell and refused to be weak and scared of the Vyken and took control of her life. I really found the Light to be very interesting and am interested to see what more Llona learns about the Light and how her powers will grow in the upcoming book. Another person I really loved was May I thought it was pretty awesome how McClellan made Llona's closest friend an undiscovered fury. I can't wait for the second book to see how their friendship develop and really hope we get to see more of what May can do as well.

I also liked Christian, I wasn't a fan of the mixed signals he gave Llona but at the same time I can see why he was so conflicted. I 'm interested to see how things develop with the two.

Another thing that I found very predictable was knowing who the Vyken was. It was very obvious from the moment the character appeared although I wanted to think otherwise because I figured it couldn't be that simple. Nonetheless it didn't take away from the plot for me in a twisted way I actually was interested to read how the antagonist toyed with Llona. There was one scene that I did not see coming though, a character who I was growing to like got killed but I can see why it had to happen.

Overall this was a fast paced and exciting debut novel. And I can't wait to buy the second in the series when it comes out because I have a feeling that all that happened in this book is just the beginning with many more secrets still waiting to be revealed.

I really enjoyed this YA novel. Something about Llona drew me in from the beginning. She is living with her Uncle as her parents were killed (at different times) by a Vyken. A Vyken hunts Auras because if they drink the blood of an Aura then they can walk in day light. Problem is, you don't really know who they are. All that Llona knows is that she thinks one has found her, probably the one that killed her parents, and she is tired of running.

All the way through this novel I kept asking myself - is it him? or is it him? It wasn't until the very end that we find out for sure who the Vyken is that is after her. But upon learning that secret, we also learn another secret - one that I don't think Llona really processed at the end of this story, but I am sure will show up in the next book.

I really liked Christian and Llona's relationship too. It would be so hard to hold back from a first love, especially when you are sure they have feelings for you too. I like the way that they learned about each other and from each other. I have a feeling that Christian will show up in another book as well.

Llona could do some very creative and interesting things as she learns to manipulate her Light. I can't wait to see what she will do in the future! One of the things that I really liked about this book is that it really kept me guessing. I sort of knew who the Vyken was, but had no idea what he was going to do next. I didn't see the ending coming at all - but it was pretty cool!

This was my first ever book I got to read via netgalley, so I was really excited. I first heard about FRACTURED LIGHT on a contest with goodreads, I believe? Since then, I've really wanted to read it. The description sounded interesting and the cover made me that much more interested in reading it. I had to read this on my computer because I didn't have a kindle at the time but let me tell you, once I started reading this, it didn't matter. I finished it in a matter of hours...I just couldn't stop reading it. (It seems like I say that a lot, doesn't it?) But it's the truth - there are so many books that I read that just draw me in and don't want to let me go.

This book is about good versus evil, a very typical thing, right? We meet Llona (which I just LOVE this name, by the way) who has lost both her mother and her father so she now lives with her Uncle who is only about ten years older than her, so he's more like an older brother. Llona is an Aura, just like her mother. Aura's carry the light and they're only female. The darkness, or evil, that hunts Aura's to kill them are called Vyken's - which also killed her parents. But now there's one haunting her...

Llona is so different from any other Aura, including her mother. Aura's don't fight and they never have the urge to fight but Llona wants to fight, she feels it in her blood. She wants to learn how to use the light as a weapon. The amount of willpower and fight Llona has is very encouraging. Woman empowerment. I've read a lot of YA books and I have to say, she would be one of my top role models, if I had to choose.

Christian, a new boy at school suddenly becomes someone of interest not just for the reader but for Llona. But so does the brand new math teacher Mr. Steele who is not only gorgeous but has an English that makes him that much more attractive. There isn't a whole lot of `romance' in this book but there is plenty of flirting and just when you think its going to get them somewhere, it doesn't. Who am I talking about? Christian or Mr. Steele? Well - read it to find out.

Llona's best friend is May and I adore, adore, ADORE May. She's different, like Llona (but not like Llona) and that's how they bond but she's also the opposite of Llona. Where Llona is trying to be invisible in school, May knows and talks to just about every single person there. I think I like her because she's the complete opposite of me. She's someone I want as my friend. So outgoing and such a people's person but there's more to May than meets the eye!

Who would I recommend this to? Any reader who loves all kinds of YA Fantasy novels. This is definitely right up your alley. Though, the one negative thing I will say about it is at parts, it's a little predictable. Though, even if you can guess something, there's going to be something else thrown at you so you're not disappointed you saw it coming. I never was disappointed and I really thought I was.
