Product Description

Against all odds, attorney Angelica Amante married migrant worker Antonio Perez and became a stay-at-home mom for Manuel and Anica. Manuel was born with Downs Syndrome and then stricken with childhood cancer, but the family came through the crisis intact and considered Manuel their miracle child. God had indeed blessed them. Or had He? When the deadly disease returns with a vengeance, threatening to rip away all that is precious to them, Antonio returns to Mexico in desperation to test his family members for a compatible donor for Manuel. Angelica must stay behind, watching her young son deteriorate as he suffers the ravages of chemotherapy and unexplained complications. Book 3 in the Regalo Grande series, The Fragrance of Roses is the continuing story of Angelica and Antonio, whose faith in God and love for each other must sustain them through the greatest battle of their lives.

5.0 out of 5 stars An education and moving story., Jan 24 2007
The clock is ticking-and their son is dying. Only a miracle can save him.

After five years in remission, Angelica and Antonio's son, Manual, begins his second battle against acute myeloid leukemia. His only chance of survival is to receive a bone marrow transplant from an exact HLA matching donor.

Believing only a miracle can save their son, Antonio rushes to Mexico in search of the perfect match. He recruits as many family members and volunteers as he can find in his impoverished hometown to submit to blood testing. Angelica stays behind in America watching her son's health fluctuate with chemotherapy treatments and unexplained complications, finding strength from her family, friends, and the belief that Antonio will be successful in his pursuit.

In Nikki Arana's novel, The Fragrance of Roses, she ties the lives of an American family of Mexican descent with an invalid vagabond struggling to survive in Mexico. Nikki's choice to include the secondary story of a Mexican character, Cirocco, right at the start of the novel brings an aura of mystery and intrigue to the book. Nikki also weaves in several clever and informative secondary plots, making the story both educational and entertaining. Despite the underlying tragedies in this story, the reader is gently reminded of God's divine power and ability to work all things to His good.
