Fantastic! Possibly one of my all-time favourite Heyer books.,
By
This review is from: Frederica (Paperback)
This is possibly one of my favourite Heyer books, and I've read a lot of them! I love her writing style, I love her wit, I love her characters, and this one is chock full of well written supporting characters, plot twists and surprises, and just good fun. There's a lot going on in the story that you don't always see coming, but it made me laugh out loud many times. I love that the hero (Lord Alverstoke) is kind of a bored cynic who has never had to exert himself on anyone's behalf before, and is shocked to discover that he might have the capacity to care for someone other than himself after all. I also love that from the first moment you are introduced to Frederica, her two incorrigible younger brothers, and her soft-hearted but dim-witted sister, you can't help but love them. Best of all, I love the banter and the way the friendship between Alverstoke and Frederica develops. You absolutely cannot go wrong with this book, or with this author in general. All of Georgette Heyer's books have a charm to them. I got to the end of the story and wanted immediately to start over back at page 1. Well worth reading over and over.

Frederica,

This review is from: Frederica (Paperback)
I must say that this is my favourite of all Georgette Heyer's Regency novels. I have owned this book for more than 40 years, and it has travelled many, many miles with me, to be packed and unpacked again. The characters are so very well developed, the portayal of each extremely enjoyable, and the story gallops along to reach its inevitable and charming conclusion. This is a book I would gladly recommend to any Regency fan, very, very satisfactory.

Possibly the best Heyer!,
This review is from: FREDERICA (Hardcover)
I'm afraid bookjunkie said everything so perfectly and eloquently I have very little to add and yet I must add my voice to those who claim this as their favorite Heyer. In Frederica, you have an exquisite heroine - intelligent, humorous, well-looking but not a diamond, kind, and above all totally believable as a woman who could turn the world of an accomplished, arrogant, self-centered rake upside down. Heyer manages beautifully to make our hero, Alverstoke, all those things and yet absolutely marvelous at the same time. As usual, Heyer's secondary characters are perfection - interesting and amusing and so believable you feel she must know these people. This book is a must read for any regency fan - it is one of the best! An added bonus is that it hardly matters how much you pay for it - I don't think I could ever get tired of reading this book; I probably re-read Frederica twice a year: it never loses it's charm.
