This is an excellent book for learning French, even from scratch. I ordered this after not having any formal French lessons for about fifteen years, and felt like I was starting from the beginning again. This book is excellent and structured brilliantly. It starts off with the "tourist" French lessons to help you get a feel for basic phrases and everyday objects, which helps to build a vocabulary of the most commonly used and discussed things. It then moves to a technical level in the second half of the book and helps to really break down how to read and comprehend a French sentence. The authors have done such an excellent job of explaining language structure in general (noun, adjective, pronoun, infinitive, etc.) that I felt like I was also getting a solid review of English sentences as well. I am almost finished the book after about a month, and even after a month I am already able to pick up a French text and understand a good deal of it. I think after 2-3 readings of this book one could easily comprehend and read French at an intermediate level. Speaking and listening to French speakers is a different matter, especially since French is spoken very quickly by native speakers, but for reading and comprehending French this book is fantastic. At times the second half can get bogged down in technical details, but it is nonetheless necessary to break down the structure of what is evidently a beautiful and technically complex language! If you want to learn French properly and are committed to mastering it over a long term period, this book is your starting point. A++

This is an EXCELLENT all-in-one French resource!! It contains everything you need to know to learn French including pronunciation, verb charts, grammar, everyday conversation topics, travel conversation and questions, tourist hot spots in Quebec and France, and an audible CD to listen to native conversations and hear correct pronunciation. An excellent resource for both French teachers and learners!! I currently use this book to teach my French classes.

I have the Kindle edition. The publishers claim there are no downloads for the CD's that come with the book. Very Frustrating! I cannot find out in 'Help' how to contact Amazon about this.

This book is a useful reference for those who have a reasonable knowledge of French but of little use to the beginner. Even for those with advanced knowledge, the explanations of many issues are at best shallow. I thought there were supposed to be exercise to do but found none.

Excellent book, tons of detail, very easy to follow. Also includes a lot of facts comparing English and French and how they've evolved over the past centuries and how similar they really are.

I have not studied French since I left high school in 1975. I am taking a French course on line. It's important to keep your brain active as you get older.
The book is good with things clearly explained. There was one simple hint in the book that was worth more than the cost of the book. I'm not going to share the hint, but when you buy the book I'm sure that you'll agree.
