French flute favorites - played by a Belgian March 3 2008

Grauwels is quite wonderful. As a professional flutist trained in France myself, listening to his Gallic articulation and Paris Conservatoire inspired phrasing is redolent of a time when average citizens would frequently have intelligent conversations on the relative merits of Gaubert, Moyse, Fleury, Barrere, etc. (no offense intended to those thousands of others I left out!) You can just sense the great ghost of "papa" Paul Taffanel and I am sure that had he the opportunity to hear Monsieur Grauwels' work, he would have heartily approved. This is good stuff indeed!

Out of 50 flute compact discs that I own, this is in the top 2 or 3. Excellent flutist, good recording and orchestra, very interesting collection of french flute works. I highly recommend this disc to anyone who likes classical flute.
Play this CD when you want to feel happy! May 21 2015

Delightful CD! Very lighthearted; there are a few dramatic moments, but they quickly return to blissful "prettiness." It's like having a little bird flying around my cottage, and that's exactly the atmosphere I wanted to create. A note on the performance/recording: on my other flute CD's, I constantly notice very distracting inhaling, and I hate that because it makes me envision the performer (and makes me start to feel a little winded, myself) when I really just want to get lost in the melody; on this CD, I haven't noticed any breathing, so, for me, it truly is a perfect listening experience. This is easily one of my new favorites.

The selection on this CD is wonderful. First heard one of the selections on Pandora, which stopped me in my tracks to listen and went online immediately and ordered it.
