Book Description

April 7 2010 Chet Gecko (Book 14)
Inventions, spells, and bullies—oh my!

It all begins when Chet’s favorite teacher is fired, only to be replaced by the mechanical invention of Dr. Tanya Lightov—a mysterious Russian scientist.
Suddenly, the school seems possessed by forces that are upsetting the natural order of things: Kindergartners are beating up sixth graders; teachers’ pets are talking back; and worst of all, Chet’s faithful partner and best friend, Natalie Attired, has abandoned him in his hour of need.
Will Chet be able to restore his friendship with Natalie and bring Emerson Hicky back to normal? One thing’s for certain: The crazy, mixed-up mastermind behind this case will be the last creature anyone expects.

Review

"The story unfolds in Chet’s entertaining first-person narrative, laced with puns, wisecracks, and mentions of edible treats involving insect ingredients. Illustrated with occasional pencil drawings, this amusing book concludes with the famous grade-school gumshoe introducing each of the 13 previous volumes in the popular Chet Gecko Mystery series."—Booklist

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny stories for 7-9 years old Jun 12 2012

I've got several Chet Gecko books for my own son when he was 7 years old, and I've got several books for my friends' children. Even the most reluctant readers among them liked the stories and asked for more. I enjoyed reading them aloud too. If you are not looking for a serious book with obvious moral lessons, but just for a book that will make your son laugh and keep reading, this is the one.

When my now-teenager was a lot shorter, he had some of these Chet Gecko books, then we donated them to the classroom. Now he misses them--so I bought him the whole series for Christmas this year. Ought to be fun! (IF his younger brother doesn't steal them!) Humor never grows old, they say, and these are funny and entertaining.
