4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful Jan 27 2013

Very helpful in providing a brief history of the areas described. The only thing missing is a more comprehensive map of London.

I am planning a week in London and was looking for good tour books that get right to the core. This one is fantastic as it breaks London into key areas and theme walks. The time, distance and all pertinent must see locales, reasonable dining options and subway locations are included in every tour.Whether you want museum tours, royal sights or the macabre, it's all here. A must have for those who wish to control their own tour or, want a street level guide to offer more insight into a great city.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too much with the spooky Aug 29 2008
By Tahl - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
In general, I'm a big fan of the walks in Frommer's guidebooks. I think they're better-planned and better-described than in most other books, plus offer a nice mix of scenery, history, shopping, and eating along most walks.

Given that, I was disappointed when I browsed this book in the store. The page layout is nice, but a very high proportion of the walks seemed oriented to ghost stories, Jack the Ripper, and similar "spooky" or Gothic interests. Where are the historically-themed or literary walks? Also, while each walk seemed to have eating spots noted, I didn't see shopping mentioned. So, this book was a pass for me.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME Feb 18 2009
By N. Mastrantonakis - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I am right at the moment in London. I've done walks #18 and #19. Today I'm going on walk #13. I'm addicted to this book because it doesn't only guide you to go to the same old sites. Of course it recommends that you go into the Tower of London for example. However, this book focuses on items off the beaten path. I bought Frommer's London 2009 book as well, which guides you to all the most popular tourist destinations. Don't expect that from this book though. 24 Walks explains destinations in a very brief blurb. So, if you are looking for more extensive explanations and more popular places get the London 2009 book. If you want a more FUN and QUIRKY book, go for 24 Walks.

On a final note, I just want to say that the person(s) who wrote 24 Walks has explained every single turn and crossing you have to make in such detail that you cannot get lost, especially that each walk also comes with a very detailed map. I would also recommend that you do not only rely on this book for your trip to London. You will definitely benefit from the more basic London 2009 book. Use 24 walks as an added addition to London 2009.
