Being a lont-time Frommer's guidebooks fan I didn't hesitate to get this one prior to our week in the Canadian Rockies. It didn't disappoint. For a quick (not in depth) guide to the best in lodging, food and sights, I doubt this little book can be beat. We found it very reliable and up-to-date.

I found this to be the single-best guidebook on Banff for its combination of things to do, hikes, restaurants and hotels. The suggested itineraries and top things to do were especially helpful.

While I had several other guidebooks, I looked at this one the most during my family vacation to Banff in August 2011.

It has good basic maps. You will want a more detailed book just on hikes, although this book mentions the main ones.

Having been to the Canadian Rockies before I knew what to expect in many respects. This book is a good compact guide for anyone. It has decent maps and information and is a nice compact, pocket size. The only shortcoming is that it does not have enough places listed in it. You should also study another more complete guide to places to hike/walk or you will miss some great places.
