I just spent a week in Edinburgh and I relied on this book to plan my trip and navigate the city. It's full of useful information, as well as recommendations and clearly marked neighbourhood maps. I read it in advance and bookmarked the appropriate sections for my interests and it worked perfectly. Plus it's compact and fit easily in my purse. Remember that North American cell phones don't work there, so you won't be able to rely on your iPhone maps.

My only criticism would be that the maps often don't include smaller streets, so you may have to depend on landmarks and major intersections to be sure you're going the right way.

HASH(0xa775a5b8) out of 5 stars This Has It All for Two Great City Experiences! May 17 2012

This book has just enough to plan a great Scottish City trip. The restaurant info was especially complete and on track. I also wreaked havoc on my credit cards with the shopping recommendations. I would have never found the bookstores without this. It is just the right size to fit in a small bag and I knew I had a great resource when my Scottish friends started taking it out of my hands to bone up on their home cities. This is just a great guide to have for Scotland.

HASH(0xa7c9b57c) out of 5 stars Used for a trip to Glasgow & Edinburgh March 19 2013

We took a cruise and I bought this book to have some ideas of what we wanted to visit. I liked the various tours it had, and we picked pieces of a few including visiting Glasgow Catherdral. Very handy series to have on a trip, especially with the pull out maps.
The Edinburgh portions we got a lot of use out of and spent out whole day exploring multiple places along the Royal Mile starting at the Edinburgh Castle and ending at the park at the end.

HASH(0xa7c9b7f8) out of 5 stars Day by day in Edinburgh Sept. 13 2012

We are in Edinburgh now and I have found this book to be the most helpful of the four I have. It fits in a backpack or pocket or purse easily and has very good neighborhood maps that help you plan your day.The descriptions of the sights to see have been accurate and to the point. The incuded map in the back for Glasgow (which we went to last week) and Edinburgh are uncluttered, but have the pertinent info clearly presented.

HASH(0xa7c9e600) out of 5 stars Great little guide July 8 2013

I love the Frommer's Day to Day guides. It will be well used in Edinburgh. Easy to carry, concise information and suggested walking tours with the needed information close at hand. Not as information packed as the big books, but this is great as a quick reference and fits easily in a pocket or purse.

HASH(0xa75ee690) out of 5 stars Love the day by days! Dec 12 2012

I usually stick with Frommer's when I travel. The day by day books are so useful at prioritizing if you don't have much time. They also have longer term plans if you do end up with plenty of time. Very informative. They include maps, prices, hours, lodging, restaurants, etc.
