I just spent a week in Edinburgh and I relied on this book to plan my trip and navigate the city. It's full of useful information, as well as recommendations and clearly marked neighbourhood maps. I read it in advance and bookmarked the appropriate sections for my interests and it worked perfectly. Plus it's compact and fit easily in my purse. Remember that North American cell phones don't work there, so you won't be able to rely on your iPhone maps.

My only criticism would be that the maps often don't include smaller streets, so you may have to depend on landmarks and major intersections to be sure you're going the right way.

This Has It All for Two Great City Experiences! May 17 2012

This book has just enough to plan a great Scottish City trip. The restaurant info was especially complete and on track. I also wreaked havoc on my credit cards with the shopping recommendations. I would have never found the bookstores without this. It is just the right size to fit in a small bag and I knew I had a great resource when my Scottish friends started taking it out of my hands to bone up on their home cities. This is just a great guide to have for Scotland.

I love the Frommer's Day to Day guides. It will be well used in Edinburgh. Easy to carry, concise information and suggested walking tours with the needed information close at hand. Not as information packed as the big books, but this is great as a quick reference and fits easily in a pocket or purse.
