4.0 out of 5 stars Will be coming with us to Italy Sep 12 2012

A little different than most travel books, this book was very specific about daily/weekly tours. It's physical size is relatively small, so it will be convenient to take along on our trip. The highlighted tours gave a good idea of what to expect, and we're using those tours, modified somewhat or our personal preference, as the basis for our Tuscany tour. I did not use their references for hotels as I had already booked my own in Lucca and Siena.

Updated 10/7 - Just returned from out Italy trip and would like to change this to a 5 star. What I thought would be useful was even more valuable when on location. Recommendations made in the book for daily activity were very relevant and up to date. Top book. Buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars All You Will Need for a Visit to Florence and Tuscany Oct 20 2012
By Brett H - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have used several of these Frommers Day by Day guides, and they have proved to be useful, pocket sized books which are all you need in the way of a guide book for the particular area you are in. I am reasonably familiar with Florence although less so with Tuscany as a whole, but my impression that this is an excellent little book.

The coverage of Florence is comprehensive and sensibly it gives guidance as to the sites it suggests you cover depending on the time you have available - one, two or three days. For Tuscany the equivalent is three days, one week and ten days so that if time is limited, which is the case for most of us, this is very helpful in prioritising. There are some nice touches such as the best of the Uffizi Art Museum, which is a real time saver, and the section on special interest tours.

There are the usual sections on where to stay and where to eat, but personally I tend to use sites such as Tripadvisor for this sort of information these days, and I use a book like this as a guide to what to see. As such it is an impressive little book and the only guide you will need when visiting the area. There is a useful pull out area map in the back, though some of the maps in the body of the book are a little hard on the eyes.
