1.0 out of 5 stars Completely useless for locating restaurants Sep 10 2010
By Ithakan - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Apparently, none of the earlier reviewers relied on the Frommer's maps to find restaurants as they wandered the city, or they would have noted that the maps in the "Where to Dine" section are not maps of restaurants reviewed--they are repeats of the hotel maps in the "Where to Stay" section. This is a case of incredibly bad editing that I wouldn't expect from Frommer's--and I hope Amazon discontinues sale of this defective version of the guide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Frommer's Istanbul 2008 Oct 24 2008
By W. Dillard - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
My husband and I returned from Istanbul two days ago. This guide is as great as the many other Frommer's guides. My only complaint is that the admission fees to many of the sites suggested are double the listed price in this guide. I was a little surprised given the fact that this book is a recent release. For example, admission to Topkapi Palace is listed as 10 TYL with an additional 10 TYL for entry into the Harem. The actual cost is 20 TYL for admission into the palace and an additional 15 TYL for the Harem which is located near the exit of the palace. By the time, we finished touring the palace the Harem was closed. I was a little disappointed by that. Overall, Istanbul is a fascinating city and this guide helped us explore the many layers of history. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable and informative read Jan 27 2011

This travel guide is both helpful and particularly fun to read. The author gives very interesting descriptions of Istanbul, so you are sure to get excited about your trip ahead of time. I found the suggested itineraries especially helpful in planning my trip, although the author overloads the days.
