Insider advice on avoiding the crowds as you explore some of Italy's greatest gems, from the Uffizi in Florence to the Vatican Museum in Rome, and from the ruins at Pompeii to Venice's St. Mark's basilica. Plus tips for navigating the country's lovely but less-traveled corners, like the Marches, the Dolomites, and even Sardinia.

Where to find the absolute best seafood in Venice, the loveliest vineyards in Tuscany, the tastiest pizza in Naples, and, of course, the finest gelato that Italy has to offer.

Insightful commentary on Italy's dazzling array of art and architectural masterpieces, from Michelangelo's statue of David to the glories of St. Peter's in Rome.

Opinionated write-ups. No bland descriptions and lukewarm recommendations. Our expert writers are passionate about their destinations--they tell it like it is in an engaging and helpful way.

Exact prices listed for every establishment and activity--no other guides offer such detailed, candid reviews of hotels and restaurants. We include the very best, but also emphasize moderately priced choices for real people.

All Complete guides offer user-friendly features including star ratings and special icons to point readers to great finds, excellent values, insider tips, best bets for kids, special moments, and overrated experiences.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kindle edition is great...has table of contents Mar 13 2011

I got the huge Frommers book for Christmas. I love it. Leading up to my trip, I started bumming about carrying around this bible sized book all over Italy and looked into the kindle version. One of the above reviews said the kindle version has no table of contents. That seemed unlikely and I downloaded the sample, which I encourage you to do. It indeed has a table of contents and the table of contents is linked to pages in the book.

The kindle edition for kindle has black and white photos that you would expect. The iPad kindle edition has color photos, as does the kindle for iPhone version. A great compact resource and my shoulders will be happy to carry it.

As to Frommers itself, yes, it's repetitive sometimes but that's because you're not likely to read every page. So you may find content overlap regarding say the Forums on pages summarizing history, another suggesting a tour iteinerary, and another describing an ancient Rome attraction. That makes sense to me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Publisher needs proofreaders April 13 2011
By Andy - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I bought this eBook because the sample looked interesting and we have used Frommer's in the past. However, it appears this book was scanned from paper and there are at least 84 errors; normaldiso, normaldes, normalnoid, etc. I was particularly intrigued by the Baptistery in Florence that is renowned for its "Gates of normaldise"
Also, a restaurant listed in the Roman section of the book and a favorite of ours (Café Mancini) has been closed since 2009.
EBooks are great, but only when they are properly prepared and presented. I will seriously consider another Frommer's eBook, especially at over 14 dollars.
