  • Insider advice on avoiding the crowds as you explore some of Italy's greatest gems, from the Uffizi in Florence to the Vatican Museum in Rome, and from the ruins at Pompeii to Venice's St. Mark's basilica. Plus tips for navigating the country's lovely but less-traveled corners, like the Marches, the Dolomites, and even Sardinia.
  • Where to find the absolute best seafood in Venice, the loveliest vineyards in Tuscany, the tastiest pizza in Naples, and, of course, the finest gelato that Italy has to offer.
  • Insightful commentary on Italy's dazzling array of art and architectural masterpieces, from Michelangelo's statue of David to the glories of St. Peter's in Rome.
  • Opinionated reviews. No bland descriptions and lukewarm recommendations. Our expert writers are passionate about their destinations--they tell it like it is in an engaging and helpful way.
  • Exact prices listed for every establishment and activity--no other guides offer such detailed, candid reviews of hotels and restaurants. We include the very best, but also emphasize moderately priced choices for real people.
  • User-friendly features including star ratings and special icons to point readers to great finds, excellent values, insider tips, best bets for kids, special moments, and overrated experiences.

1.0 out of 5 stars Kindle Version Ridculously Unusable Jan 24 2013
By readergirl13 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I normally love Frommer's guide and own many of them. This is the first one I downloaded on my kindle instead of buying the paperback and frankly it was a waste of $15. It is impossible to navigate to the sections you need in a timely manner. I have been searching and searching and can't find a single map in this thing. The table of contents is different than the print version and does not list the maps or suggested tours or even attractions sections for each city. Basically, I spent a bunch of money to download a whole lot of random info on Italy that CANNOT be navigated through in a kind paperwhite. I want my money back! It is freaking ridiculous to try to scroll through 962 pages to find the attraction I am looking for. The search function is zero help and offers me the same plethora of excess instead of navigating to a heading or sensible point. Seriously a waste of my time and money! Yes the book has lost of information, can I access it in a reasonable time frame or manner? Absolutely not! Don't waste your dollars, it's worth the extra weight to just get the darn paperback!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic guide Dec 12 2012

This book is a must have if you're planning a trip to Italy. It has everything you need: maps, thorough reviews on hotels, restaurants and attractions, tips on everything from when to travel to how to make the most of your time, etc.
It gives you some history and describes the differences amongst the regions. It's just a great resource overall. It is a little heavy, so my suggestion is that you buy ahead of time and give yourself time to study it before your trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars I still believe in Frommers Feb 23 2013
By Christine Tran - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I have always bought my travel books, specifically Frommers, since I like to mark them up and doggie-ear specific pages of my interests. I buy them all from Amazon, but I tend to read the reviews first, which are generally very helpful. The one recurring theme from the reviews was how thick and cumbersome the book is. I went and checked out an older version from my library, 2011 (which was the same thickness, I gather) to see all the fuss and I don't think it's that bad. The info in the book is super helpful, like all Frommers, about the best museums, sites, things to do, along with helpful tips such as advance ordering of tickets for the Uffizi Gallery in Florence so you're not standing in line x 2hrs. I hated that I couldn't underline or mark anything! Yes, the book is a little heavier than most other Frommers books but to me, it covers alot for the money. You most likely will either leave it at home after you've gotten all the info you need or you'd leave it in your hotel room. It wouldn't be a big deal to pack it along for me though--I tend to read the section again just for fun after I've visited the area, and often times say, "Ah, yes."

I'm buying my own Frommers book, to definitely take along this summer, and my family of 5 will be all over Italy, not just in one place. That's what the book is also great at--everywhere covered. I also checked out Rick Steve's Italy book, a good source as well but I'm so accustomed to using Frommers, I'll stick with it.
