This guide does really well what the other guides of this collection do: get you organized for a fun and easy trip. Using the Day by Day collection, you get a few itineraries that "optimize" how you visit cities instead of having to spend too much time on the move and not seeing anything. Cheap, easy to use, I always use them and they rarely disappoint.

This guide is perfect. Just the right size to carry around while on a the go and for quick reference. Planning my trip, I reviewed other guides, but found that this book - especially the "in one, two, three days" section with approximate time spent there was excellently written, especially as it is divided into Lower, Middle, and Upper Manhattan.

While travelling, this guide, and a good map (as backup) is all you need to get around around Manhattan

Great idea but needs updates March 23 2009
By Richard C. Yeh - Published on
Format: Paperback
Living in New York, I checked the prior edition of this book out of the public library and followed its suggestions for several delightful walks through the city. Both editions start with ideas of what to do if you are short on time, which is appropriate for time-limited trips to Manhattan. When I flipped through the second edition (2009) in Borders last weekend, I looked forward to seeing what had changed.

Unfortunately, the Chelsea walk still directs you to the Wild Lily Tea Room, where, at [...] (noted in the book), they say "The Wild Lily Tea Room closed its door in Chelsea on December 24, 2006 due to an exorbitant rent increase." (On Amazon, you can search inside the first edition to see that text.)

One of the dining maps had numbers at locations which were not listed in the legend/key!

It's not clear whether much else in the book has changed. I need to take a closer look.

Pack It With You Day by Day Sept. 2 2012

Slim sized and packed with information. In addition to maps of each community inside, this book includes a paper map in plastic pocket and subway & bus route maps on the cover. If you don't want to lug a book around, mark the suggested sites you want to see on your paper map and rip out the book guts and just take the cover with you. (That's why I bought 2 copies.)

This will make you excited about your trip! April 16 2009
By Gi_Olabee - Published on
Format: Paperback
I have used Frommer's guides before, but the size, pictures, and detailed descriptions include all the things you will need. If you are looking for an extensive hotel list, this will not have it. I would go to the full Frommer's guide for that. But if you have lodging taken care of and know where you would like to stay, this is the guide for you. Maps were terrific.

Best NYC book! Jan. 13 2013
By Helen F. Dufreche - Published on

I purchased this book (as well as many others) and this was BY FAR the BEST book for getting around NYC!

It's small, so it will fit in a woman's purse.

It has maps, restaurants, transit maps and info, reviews, walking maps and MUCH more.

This is the best book. Forget the rest!
Handiest Guide for Touring Around NYC Oct. 9 2013
By Robert W - Published on
Format: Paperback
We have visited NYC once or twice a year for the past 10 or 12 years, and see shows, touristy things, walk, and just enjoy life in the big city. Our visits range from 2 to 5 days. We use all kinds of guidebooks and materials to aid our adventures. On our most recent trip in September we used the Frommers New York City Day by Day Guide, and it was the handiest guide to carry around. Small enough to fit in a pants pocket or purse, but yet containing all kinds of information to make our trip enjoyable. We had the 2009 edition, and we did not find it particularly out of date, although for our next trip we will buy the most recent edition. We like to use the Zagat Restaurant Guide for dining choices, and have other guides, I-pad, etc. in our hotel room for more research.
