Book Description

Mar 9 2011 Frommer's Day by Day - Pocket (Book 153)
As USA Today said in a recent article, this city has gone "from Rocky to rockin'."

Building on its place as the historic center of America, Philadelphia keeps adding attractions that make some call it New York City's "sixth borough"-top-notch art houses in the Barnes Foundation and the Philadelphia Museum of Art: Independence National Historic Park; the runner's paradise of Fairmount Park and its 8,900 acres; and some exceptional hotels, restaurants, and pubs.

Frommer's Philadelphia Day by Day will guide readers through this revitalized Philadelphia, quickly and with an insider's knowledge of the one-of-a-kind experiences that lurk in the city's many vibrant neighborhoods. With hundreds of color photos, dozens of annotated maps and walking tours, thematic tours for every taste and star-rated advice on where to eat, stay, shop, and have fun, this book is the perfect accompaniment to any visit to the city.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for the Day Trip Nov 30 2011
By Dash Manchette - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
One benefit of living in Baltimore, besides the low crime rate and the beauty of the well-preserved architecture, is that it is close to other places worth a day trip. For Philadelphia, this little guide has pointed me in a number of good directions.

Of course, yes, there are the famous cites featuring the Liberty Bell and all that. But the history includes where Ben Franklin is buried (Christ Church Burial Ground) as well as the oldest continually occupied city in the nation (Elfreth's Alley). And of course, there is the famous art museum with the statue of Rocky, but there is also the Rodin Museum as well as the Rosenbach Museum, for more specialized tastes.

FROMMER'S PHILADELPHIA DAY BY DAY also gets high marks for pointing out good breakfast places to start the day, little cafes and coffee shops along the various routes around the city, good and interesting restaurants, various markets and such in between and where to go for dessert afterwards. It also provides some info on some good places to grab a drink. As a fan of microbreweries, I probably could have located them myself off the internet. But I may not have caught Standard Tap, which does not brew its own but instead serves beers from breweries from the area.

The book has good map, is well laid out and is small enough to toss into a small bag for convenience. If you are heading to Philly, you might want to check this one out.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great guidebook! Jan 16 2013

I visited Philadelphia last November for a conference for 5 days. I got this guidebook, and overall it was very useful and easy to use. If you plan to do sightseeing in Phillis by walking, this guidebook would be useful and exciting for you. The author designs several "walking tours," each of which focuses on a specific neighborhood in Phillis. Each walking tour includes a detailed map about the neighborhood and suggests where to stay (hotels) and stop by (attractions), where to eat, drink, and shop. Also, this guidebook is like a pocket book--easy to carry when you are doing the sightseeing. I highly-recommend this guidebook!
