Product Description

It's been said that it takes 21 days to form a habit. I don't know about you but it sure seems difficult to break the bad habits and keep the good ones going. You may have several good habits you've formed in your life that have become second nature to you.

For me, running has become one such habit. What started out as a legitimate way to lose some extra pounds and help speed up my metabolism eventually turned into my favorite sport and primary outlet for competition. The daily run is something I look forward to as it leaves me feeling energized and full of life.

If you're not a runner, you might not be familiar with something called an energy gel. These are little 100 calorie packets of mainly carbohydrates. Brand names include GU, Clif Shot, Hammer, and Stinger to name a few. They are a simple, easy-to-digest form of fuel. I've had several instances where I felt low on energy while out on a training run or in a race but then felt an energy surge after consuming one of these little guys. It's amazing what a difference just 100 calories can make.

It's my hope that these 21 days of devotions will serve as an "energy gel" or fuel for your soul. They're meant to be quick yet powerful and thought-provoking no matter what time of day you prefer to read (eat) them.

It's also my hope that you'll form another great habit for your life...a daily, uninterrupted time of drawing close to Jesus. May you come to wholeheartedly agree with David when he said in Psalm 34:8...

"Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him!"

Fuel for the Soul: 21 Devotionals That Nourish
This book is amazing! I enjoyed reading it and felt like I had a direction in order to become a better person. It made me think and realize things I never thought about before, and I liked that.
Thank you, CJ Hitz, I will be recommending this book to everyone I know. This book is so great that when I was reading it I notice I was trying to highlight chapters instead of a line or two. Every word is important and impacts greatly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quick, Powerful, Thought Provoking Fuel for the Soul Sept. 19 2011
By J. Steve Miller - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
There are tons of devotionals out there. Why this one?

First, each devo makes its point quickly. The energy-starved distance runner or biker can't stop mid marathon for a leisurely meal. More likely, he'll down a 100 calorie energy gel, packed with carbs. Similarly, in my fast-paced life, I like a devo that makes its point quickly and powerfully, so that I can move into prayer and personal application. Hitz cuts the fluff and concisely makes his points. That's a tribute to any writer.

Secondly, his writing flows naturally, avoiding the ostentatious adornment that many writers feel they simply must throw in.

Third, the chosen topics hit where we live - they're practical - with lessons such as:

* Be alert to attacks.
* Find a lonely place to pray.
* Ask yourself, "What's hindering your progress?"

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent devotional with real-life reflections and applications Dec 14 2011
By Matt H. - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
Fuel for the Soul is a wonderful devotional that applies the wisdom found in the Bible to everyday life. Each day of the devotional opens with an enlightening and humorous anecdote from CJ that leads into the meat of the message.

This is a devotional that you'll be sure to read again and again. Like any other piece of great literature, you're bound to learn something new each time you pick it up. It certainly reminded me of the behaviors and habits in my life that I can improve upon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Truths that will transform the heart Dec 28 2012
By Valerie Caraotta - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
In the Christian life, though many would like it to be a quick sprint, CJ Hitz will tell you it is rather a marathon where pacing, endurance, and commitment are required. Himself an avid runner and former basketball player, who says God can't give us lasting truths from the things we enjoy? And so it is with his book Fuel for the Soul. A speaker of the Word and skilled writer, he has challenged us to take the 21 days that it takes to form a new habit, and venture into God's Word using practical things from everyday life we can identify with. I'll admit his daily devotions revealed a hunger to hear his audio messages which I did on I hope you too, in addition to reading his excellent book, will go to his web page as it has both audio and written material that will strengthen you.
I consider these practical mini-sermons each day that if truly meditated upon slowly, and put into practice, would propel one to greater Christian growth. These devotions are not just about our relationship with God, but what our relationships to one another should be like. It is my hope that shortly he will compile volume II.

5.0 out of 5 stars I dare you to read this and not be changed Dec 31 2012
By Jenny - Published on
Format:Kindle Edition
I dare you to read this 21 day devotional apply it to your life and not come away changed. I have read this book cover to cover and my husband and I have agreed to challenge ourselves to use this daily devotional over the next 21 days to change our lives. The book is filled with strong, scriptural devotions that can lead you back to the ground roots, or core of Christianity and lift you back up into a stronger more solid walk with God. I highly recommend this awesome journey to clear the murky waters of everyday life, get back to the basics, commune with the Lord, recognize the enemy then get lifted into a closer relationship with God.
My favorite powerful quote from the book is:

I once heard it said that when you're on your knees, it's pretty hard to stumble. Prayer brings clarity to our lives as we call on God to reveal where the devil is scheming. How awesome to know that we have the opportunity to help foil an evil plot of the enemy!

Please note that I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
