UPDATE: Januay 2013
I purchased a battery to replace the one I bought from Alphatronix that failed. I purchased it from Good as New Electronics. It was sold as a New battery. When I received it, it appeared that someone had previously ripped the package open and the whole thing had been under water. The packaging was stuck to the battery. So I returned it and purchased one from EXCELTSHOTS; again a NEW battery. The packaging on this one was in decent shape. BUT it had been opened carefully and all the edges taped closed again.
CONCLUSION: I believe many of the NP-45A batteries being sold by the vendors on Amazon as NEW are either knock-offs or USED batteries placed in original packaging. So be VERY CAREFUL. Do not accept any NEW battery that is not in original UNOPENED packaging. For this reason, I only purchase items sold or fulfilled by Amazon. It is much easier to return defective products to Amazon.
I purchased 2 "Fujifilm NP-45A Li-Ion Battery - Retail Packaging" batteries from Alfatronix about 6 months ago. If you are purchasing this battery from a vendor other than Alfatronix, this review may not be relevant. The batteries look very similar to my original battery that came with my camera--but not exactly. They both worked fine for several months. Then one failed and wouldn't hold a charge. I contacted Alfatronix and they told me it only had a 30-day return warranty. When I see other sellers offering aftermarket batteries with a 3 year warranty, I expect that a NEW, Fuji branded battery should have at least a year. A 30 day warranty screams to me that this is a knock-off or used battery.
