fine NASCAR romance, Mar 6 2008
By Harriet Klausner - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Fully Engaged (Mass Market Paperback)
Public Relations Specialist Sandra Jacobs struggles to satisfy her unimpressable client, Gideon Taney, owner of Taney Motorsports as she needs this job, but so far nothing has worked. When his NASCAR driver Will Branch fails to arrive at Olivia Winton Show where he was to be the guest of honor, three cups of coffee does not abate the trepidations she feels when Taney arrives. Someone must take the fall for this embarrassing debacle on the top breakfast morning TV show so Taney fires Jacobs.
Sandra knows how much she needs this client to pay for her father's Alzheimer's medical care so she refuses to slink away. Besides she feels strongly she did everything right as she had worked hard to obtain this coup; it was not her fault that Will pulled his DNF (did not finish). As she struggles to stay afloat, bossy Gideon is impressed with her fortitude, which soon turns to love.
Readers will be FULLY ENGAGED with this fine NASCAR romance due to the strong relationships between the lead couple and within her family. The actual strength of the tale is the contrast between the seriousness of her father's mental fading away vs. the humor of the relationship between the Motor Medias Group member and her client. Abby Gaines provides a wonderful mostly off track romance.

Another Harlequin I am a bit disappointed with, Jan 15 2009

I think this is the last Harlequin I will read (At least in a long time). I realized the publishing company isn't about quality as much as it is about quantity.
The characters were fine. Hero, heroine, story. . . All dandy. But don't interject a parallel story with another couple, focusing on THEIR relationship too! That has to be one of the top 5 mistakes NOT to make in a romance novel, straying from the main couple. Not only does the author do that in more than 2 chapters, but she devotes 8 pages to it at a time! Keeping the reader from the main characters for 8 pages nearly wrecked the story for me.
I was confused when the parallel romance was interjected. I just had to read and keep it on the back burner until things came together. At that point I skimmed over their silly romance to keep my focus on the main story. It was useless information meant for ANOTHER novel. It would have been more prudent to keep the details out of it.
Other than that, the only thing that stopped me from thinking the heroine was as strong as I thought (and admired her for) was the way she handled herself towards the end of the book (at the last romantic "will you love me forever" hurdle). Asking someone straight out if they'll love you and take care of you forever really isn't very romantic. It seemed more childish worrying about life and changes that people go through years later. But voicing that in a straight question was kinda silly.
The other thing that annoyed me was sectioning in between the chapters. If the scene is remaining the same, why put that long space between the paragraphs, as if the scene changed? That was done often in the book. Lots of times just after a dialogue, and a question was asked. At least there weren't any typos (which I've come to expect from harlequin).
It was a flowing read (when you forget about the added couple and their useless story). I didn't have to back track to clear confusion, and it was written well. If anything it pounded home what NOT to do in my OWN novels. I'd kinda recommend it if you have time to waste, and are sick of those knock you out of your socks WINNER novels. It was adequate I guess.

Disappointed, May 7 2008

Ok here is the scope the NASCAR novels tend to be G-rated fun novels to read. This novel was very good until about 3/4 through the book. Sandra is PR person and Gideon is a NASCAR owner. There is some good heat from the couple but Sandra becomes too needy and demanding . She insists that Gideon must promise forever. Now this is the reason the book almost flew across the room in frustration. Sandra's father has early Alzheimer's and Sandra feels she might become sick as well. She tells Gideon she wants children - if she is upset she could become sick and she wants to have biological children??? If you were my friend I would suggest you pass - there is a lot of fun NASCAR novels don't waste your time.
