I am a board certified PA and was introduced to this book. I have read lots of health care books, but I have never seen a book with so many mistakes. Where is this being published or proof read - outsourced to an Asian speaking country? The test bank of questions that the teachers use with the book also have many mistakes and will contradict the book. LPN students are being cheated and the problem is they do not know the difference because they are novices and just learning.
The test bank has some of the worst written test questions I have ever read. A student is being tested on what they don't know rather than on what they do know. The bank does not seem to concentrate on important concepts, but on miniscule information hidden deep within the text. It is not so much that the questions themselves are that bad, but the answers are extremely POORLY WRITTEN and make it VERY CONFUSING to answer, and leave the poor student to guess what it is they are to show their teacher they do know. Then to top it, the answers sometimes are flat out wrong, which the teachers don't seem to catch.
The schools using this book, should complain to the publisher and threaten not to purchase it which should goad the publisher to get its act together.
READER BEWARE. And challenge your teachers when you find mistakes and contraditions, because they are there.

I am currently using this book in my LPN program. I have found it easy to read, informative, and thorough. It has rationales for each skill it includes along with detailed instructions and pictures. There are questions at the end of each chapter. The workbook is excellent for extra study and test preparation. The workbook includes matching, fill in the blank, medical vocabulary, as well as critical thinking exercises. I am very happy that our instructors went with this particular book!

Better Than My Textbook!!, Mar 26 2005

This review is from: Student Learning Guide for Fundamental Concepts and Skills for Nursing (Paperback)
I have another book for my Practical Nursing Program, and actually, it is an RN book, but my instructor will read from it, and say "PN, this is what YOU do". A total waste of time, but then, I remembered that about 5 years ago, I purchased Dewit's Fundamental Concepts and Skills for Nursing, and when I pulled it out last night, I said "Eureka!" Now, I will use this textbook as the main source at home, while I humor my professors and bring their piece of junk to class. Now, I made it my business to order the study guide, because it will be better for me! Order this book, future practical nurses! It will make your life easier!
