The number one text in its field, Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics is respected by professors and students alike for its comprehensive topical coverage, its varied examples and homework problems, its application of the visual component of fluid mechanics, and its strong focus on learning. The authors have designed their presentation to allow for the gradual development of student confidence in problem solving. Each important concept is introduced in simple and easy-to-understand terms before more complicated examples are discussed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Feb 18 2011
By R.A.
Format:Loose Leaf
This book was exactly as advertised, came in perfect condition, no problems at all. The pages are a little thin so its hard to keep in perfect condition, but a huge money-saver compared to buying the actually hard-cover textbook.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, as 'required' textbooks go Oct 18 2009
By G. Ballard - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
In describing this textbook, one should carefully delineate between the authors text and the publishers product. The authors text is excellent: the publisher's product is not. I especially like Chapter Six's Differential Analysis of a Fluid Flow. This explanation is much easier to follow than what's found in any of my other fluids textbooks.

Now the ugly rub is that this is a Wiley textbook, so it's exorbitantly expensive, uses Imperial units obfuscate example explanations, and it includes Wiley's terrible databank problems. From the forth edition onward, there seems little or no real correlation between the text and problems in the chapter, so I assume that is when the publisher switched from the author's problems to their own test bank.

When I finish this class and sell back the expensive textbook (for whatever I can still get), I'll buy an old edition for reference. I see that non-current editions are selling for about 2% of what the new edition goes for, which is a better reflection of real value in the market (as opposed to artificially inflated prices for 'required' texts).

1.0 out of 5 stars Just.... Awful... Feb 26 2012
By Nathan Brink - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Okay, it's actually a well thought out, informative textbook. The authors should be proud.

That said, the publishers should be ashamed of themselves! Equations are jammed together so that half the variables are printed on the space of a single character, huge gaps are in the middle of many, many words. It's just terrible...

3.0 out of 5 stars Same content but more difficult to read. Oct 5 2011
By bhanna - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Something strange happened with the formatting when they created this book. Quite often words will be broken up with big empty spaces (sometimes the size of a word) in the middle. For example, surface becomes surf ace, and device is de vice. Sometimes two words are printed on top of each other in the same space. The broken up words often occur several times on each page, but the overlapping text comes up less frequently. The content is the same as in the regular text, but it's a little jarring and sometimes confusing to read.
