This soft cover text book is a required read for those taking the course. Given that most buyers have to have it for school, most will not hang onto it. However, I found the information in the text to be useful, and not just to pass the actual course. I have kept this book because it provides much needed info about work, and like most people I have to do that daily.
Chapters on leadership, the basic skills, and functions of managers have been helpful for me to better understand the workplace and my role in it. Another topic I found to be useful beyond the scope of college course requirements is the leadership skill of trust. Plain old trust! It needs to be in the work force! The text describes it as...
1. Integrity; Honest and truthful
2. Competence; Knowledge and skills
3. Consistency; Reliability, and good judgment
4. Loyalty; Willingness to protect a person
5. Openness; to share ideas and info (Robbins, Coulter, Langton. P-249)
Every chapter has a self assessment test to help oneself grow in professional and personal development, and it has quizzes and case studies. Pearson also provides a online resource for the text. Like every text book the reading was hard at times, but I never had to look up difficult words, and I could relate to all the examples and case studies. All in all, if you really have to buy it for school, then buy it knowing that this book is a keeper.
