The book mentioned many areas that were not familiar to me, although I have used the program for gift processing widely. The book was mainly for collaborating with fundraisers to set up the program properly. There was an absence of technical jargon, so it was a good starting point to consult the Blackbaud manual for more detail.

So that's what all the buzz is about! Feb. 28 2010
By California Vegan - Published on
Format: Paperback
I have been a development professional for over a decade and during that time I have heard countless testimonies declaring Raiser's Edge as the top application of its type. So, I was thrilled when, three years ago, I became Director of Development for a prominent private school that used Raiser's Edge as its donor database.

Suddenly, I found myself overwhelmed by a complicated tool that I just could not get a handle on. I have taken trainings and bought several manuals but all they do is emphasize how much I don't know about RE. I have become totally dependent on my database manager for nearly all tasks involving RE. I have taken to keeping a dozen different spreadsheets for the information I use most often.

I am about half way through this book and have already learned more about RE than I have in the past three years. It has all started to click. The definitions in the book are clear, the examples are simple and the language is English, not Tech-ish.

Information comes in bite-size pieces that are easy to digest. It won't teach you how to be an RE geek but it will help you to understand what the geeks are talking about. I wish I had read this book three years ago.

Finally! A User-Friendly Guide to RE! Feb. 26 2010
By Seeking Health - Published on
Format: Paperback
I am a Raiser's Edge administrator and I LOVE this book! Not just for myself but for my co-workers. One of the biggest challenges I face is helping my colleagues communicate exactly what they need when asking for reports or queries.

This book explains, in plain English, everything a non-technical RE user needs to optimize their interaction with this most useful fundraising tool. It simplifies The Raiser's Edge so that any level user can express their wants and needs in producing reports and list.

For the RE professional this book is an invaluable tool by which to interface with your colleagues. For the more casual user, it is an easy-read that will empower you to bring your fundraising to a new level.

A "must have" for any organization that uses The Raiser's Edge.

Hooray! Dec 29 2010

Finally, there is a book that explains Raiser's Edge that can be understood!! I was plunked into a position where I had to learn the Raisers' Edge without prior experience with the database. While I understood the basics of fundraising, I had never before been confronted with a database that was so confounding. Connors puts the database into layman's terms. Even without the step-by-step of a how-to guide that I was hoping for Connors language is so clear that I was easily able to figure out the "how-to" part on my own. Kudos to Mr. Connors!!

I purchased the softcover book at a conference at full price AND came home and purchased the digital version too! If Bill Connors ever writes another book I will purchase that one too!
