5.0 out of 5 stars one of the best manga I've read to date Mar 20 2006
Format:Paperback
It's got a dash of everything - action, comedy, romance, drama, magic, fantasy- you name it. The art is solid, the characters are engaging and the story is easy to follow. Definitely add this title to your shojo!

1.0 out of 5 stars Why does everyone like this so much? July 4 2004
By Newbia
Format:Paperback
This is is your average story about an average school student who suddenly finds out she has this destiny to save the world. How she is supposed to save the world-going back into ancient China and finding the 7 constellations-is original, though, and gives Fushigi Yugi the star. Except this is different from the average in that the main character, Miaka, is a twit. She often does silly things, and can be shallow as well, like how she goes back into ancient China. She goes back to Japan and assumes it was a dream. When she writes in her diary, she doesn't even MENTION China, she only mentions how she met a cute boy. (And there might be a romance between them! Can you believe it?)

As for the artwork? It's good, but not as good as Alice 19th. The characters put on crazy expressions (such as that plus shaped vein that shows up when you are angry) way too often.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fushigi Yugi review Mar 18 2004
Format:Paperback
When I first got this book and opened it up, I really did not think I would like it at all since I'm not a big fan of shojo/romance stories and the characters are much prettier than I'm used to but oddly enough, I actually love this series now. O.o It's so weird, but I couldn't put the book down until I'd finished it and the artwork in particular is fantastic and very detailed, the best I've ever seen in manga.
The plot's pretty good and Yu Watase definitely deserves credit for her creativity and talent.
Not everyone will like this but just like everything else, it deserves a chance.
The only bad thing I can find about this book is that it's unfortunately been flopped... anyways, I highly recommend it and if I can change my initial views of it, I know others can too.
