Gospel Power,
By
This review is from: FUTURE GRACE (Paperback)
To use a quote from another Piper classic "The more we trust in future grace, the more we give God the opportunity in our lives to show the glory of his inexhaustible grace. So take a promise of future grace and do some radical act of obedience on it. God will be mightily honored." Piper continues to impress me with his discertations on the benefits of glorifying God and enjoying Him forever. This book is one of a few on my shelf that I use to regularly remind me of where my hope and trust comes from!

An Unparalled, Crystal-Clear Picture of Biblical Faith,
By Mike (Wheaton, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: FUTURE GRACE (Paperback)
Yet again John Piper offers a paradigm-setting work- this time setting before the church the most complete work available on what saving faith is and does. Are faith and obedience two different ways of responding to God or are they connected? Piper shows convincingly that justifying faith is sanctifying faith. Gratitude is an impotent basis for obedience to God. We ought not attempt to obey God by any means other than by faith in future grace. Piper shows the existence and crucial importance of the many examples of conditional grace (an oxymoron to most churchgoers) in the Bible. Of particular benefit to the more serious student of the Bible is his chapter, "A Love Affair With God's Law", which offers a biblical-theological view of how the OT and NT, law and gospel, old covenant and new covenant, fit together. Of excellent pastoral use are the chapters tailormade for response to various sinful tendencies- pride, anxiety, lust, etc. This is biblical, pastoral theology of the finest kind. Don't sleep til you and your next door neighbor have read this!

Piper does it again.,

This review is from: FUTURE GRACE (Paperback)
John Piper does it again. Desiring God greatly impacted me and now comes Future Grace. I'm taking a hiatus from my own writing to be instructed by this great work. Piper's books are not numerous but are destined to go down as classics of Christian faith. He is definately the favorite author of this Christian author. He belongs in the library of any Christian serious about his relationship with God. My own view of God would be much less clear without Piper's brilliant, painstaking clarity.
