Another Strong Volume of Classic Joe Stories! Jan. 20 2012
By Ernest Robertson - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
This volume collects G.I. Joe: Special Missions #15-21, originally released by Marvel in 1988 and 1989. IDW's reproduction effort is again top-notch - these issues have never looked better!

#15 "...And Into the Fire!"
The continuation of the excellent Himalayan "Valley of Eternal Mist" adventure that began in #14. (Snake-Eyes, Scarlett, Iceberg and Chuckles are tracking down a rouge CIA agent)

#16 "Tight Circle"
All-out air duel over Cobra Island! We see Ace, Slipstream, Wild Bill, Maverick and Ghostrider (called "Stealth Pilot" by the Joes because they can't remember his code name) take on Rattlers, Night Ravens, and the Star Viper! A Hasbro/action-figure character is killed in this one!

#17 "All In A Night's Work!"
Cobra troops, led by Scrap-Iron, take over a research facility. Stalker, Hit&Run, Shock-Wave, Muskrat, Hardball, Scarlett and Sneak-Peek aid the FBI and local police. Great action and a lot of twists and turns in the plot - classic Hama!

#18 "Extraction"
Southeast Asia. The Oktober Guard and the Iron Grenadiers battle against each other on a farmer's field and the Joes are caught in the middle as they wait to be picked up by Wild Bill in the Tomahawk. The Joes put themselves at risk to help the farmer - great stuff! (This is a continuation of #14-15. Scarlett, Snake-Eyes, Iceberg and Chuckles have traveled far from their original mission because their extraction sites keep getting compromised.)

#19 "Getting There"
This issue takes place at the same time as #18, but it's from the point of view of Wild Bill and the other Joes on the Tomahawk who are going to pick up Scarlett, Snake-Eyes, Iceberg and Chuckles. The Joes along for the ride with Wild Bill are Lift-Ticket, Muskrat, Repeater, and Life-Line. FANTASTIC helicopter combat! This issue ends at the same place that #18 ends with the Tomahawk finally picking up Scarlett's team.

#20 "Snow Blind"
Arctic action! Snow-Job, Frostbite and Avalanche team up with the Oktober Guard to battle against Ice-Vipers and Techno-Vipers! A lot of fun to see the Joe "Snowcat" vehicle up against the Cobra "Wolf" vehicles.

#21 "The Lower Depths"
Tunnel-Rat, Air-Tight, Charbroil, and Spearhead (with pet bobcat, Max!) battle Vipers and Dreadnoks in the sewers below New York City!

The issues in this collection that I consider to be excellent must-reads are #15, #17, #18, and #19.

The other three (#16, #20 and #21) are good, but not amazing.

Over all, this volume isn't as strong as the first two volumes of Special Missions, but I still rate it 5 stars. But yeah, if you are only going to buy one volume of Special Missions, go with Volume 1 or 2. That said, I still highly recommend this to any Joe fan.

all the old joe comics collected in these issue. my only complaint is that they didnt keep the classic printed look with all the dots.
