HASH(0xaac52768) out of 5 stars New Remastered DVD Release May 19 2013
By RueBourbon - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
Please disregard the negative reviews about the picture quality placed prior to May 2013 as it does not pertain to this particular release by BU. The Blue Underground edition is remastered from the original film negatives and also features a commentary. The film itself is a slightly above average Italian Western released at a time in the early seventies when the genre was succumbing to parody. It doesn't quite reach the heights of films like 'For A Few Dollars More' or 'The Big Gundown' but it is a decent enough entry in the genre itself. Recommended to fans of Lee Van Cleef and Spaghetti Westerns.

HASH(0xaac52b70) out of 5 stars New Blue Underground DVD is Remastered! June 4 2013
By Gregory Chick - Published on Amazon.com
Format: DVD
Most of these reviews pertain to illegal bootlegs of GRAND DUEL (aka THE BIG SHOWDOWN). This new Blue Underground DVD is officially licensed, and has been fully restored and remastered from the original negative. It is presented fully uncut, in the original widescreen 2.35:1 aspect ratio. As far as Extras, the DVD includes a very informative Audio Commentary with Journalists C. Courtney Joyner and Henry Parke, as well as the Theatrical Trailer and a Spaghetti Western Trailer Reel. GRAND DUEL has never looked or sounded better!

HASH(0xaac52f78) out of 5 stars A Good Leone Imitation April 12 2014
By Julian Pope - Published on Amazon.com
The director of this film, Giancarlo Santi, was an assistant director on both The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West, so he obviously knows what it takes to make a good Spaghetti Western. When he ventured out on his own he took For a Few Dollars More and Good, Bad, Ugly co-star Lee Van Cleef with him. While it isn't on the level with Leone (but really what is?) the result is a solid 90 minute Spaghetti Western with an unforgettable score (which you may recognize from Kill Bill vol 1). If you are a fan of the sub-genre definitely check this one out, to me the music alone makes the viewing worth it.

HASH(0xaac53108) out of 5 stars Decent movie with great music Jan. 30 2015

A decent spaghetti western by Giancarlo Santi, a longtime collaborator of Sergio Leone. It is short, about 90 minutes. So a good introductory movie to the genre if you are yet into it. Younger generations will recall the music theme from 'Kill Bill, Vol. 1', composed by Luis Bacalov.
