Product Description

Amazon.ca

The Gaiam Tai Chi Beginners Kit is a great way to get started with this fitness technique. The ancient chi masters often used a ball to improve their sensitivity to circular motion. You can too with this soft-grip, one-pound weighted chi ball. The chi ball adds extra resistance to your movements, and its sand-filled spherical shape helps you feel your body-weight shift, while increasing your strength and muscle tone. The beginners kit also comes with a 45-minute, full-length Upper Body Chi for Beginners DVD, led by David Dorian-Ross. The DVD will show you how to use the ball as you move your body like waves, clouds and other forms of nature, guided by Ross' visualization cues. In addition, the kit includes a 16-page booklet excerpted from Ross' book "Exercising the Soul."

2.0 out of 5 stars Ok Intro if you have never tried yoga, or tai chi, or qigong, Jan 18 2009

This is a very nice looking video, really good production. But there is little theory here and you have to reverse the moves in your head. Consider this an appetizer toe-in-the-water course. What you get is a few moves, you do not get any complete form.

If you really want to learn Tai Chi, and do not have a local instructor (or the time) and want a DVD go straight to the masters in Sunrise Tai Chi (YMAA) DVD (2005). YMAA stuff is always top notch.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good visuals, very relaxing. Valuable kit, not just a dvd., July 21 2009

This DVD comes with a 1 pound weighted chi ball, which are extremely hard to find! The instructor is calm and relaxed, and while it goes fast in parts, you can pause and rewind. Learning this form of meditation is great, and it has changed my life for the better.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good intro, but don't depend on it., May 16 2008

I've been wanting to learn Tai Chi for a while, but unfortunately, nobody offers classes near where I live. I received this as a gift, and I think it's a good intro. (I also received books and read copious amounts of information online.) You have to do the opposite of what you see on the screen, as the instructor is facing the student, and at the end of the tape when he combines everything, he goes pretty fast for my taste. I found I had an easier time learning moves from books than the dvd, but it was good for seeing how to connect moves together, which books have a hard time explaining.
