Galaxy High School (Volume 2 of 2, Eps. 8-13)

Galaxy High was a very creative and funny Saturday morning cartoon back in the 80's. It played on a lot of the era's pop culture while at the same time going for that after school special sort of positive role messages. The writing was fun and the animation was a notch above what was the norm for the time. All in all good mix of fun.

The cast of characters are funny in of themselves. Doyle is the teenage jock who was super popular on Earth while Aimee is the shy bookworm. When they get to be exchange students in an interstellar high school everything changes as Aimee becomes the popular one and Doyle is the bafoon.

Add to the mix the friends like Booey is an alien girl with a lightbulb like head that is as ditzy as you can get. Gilda is a girl with four extra mouths coming out of her head, which obviously means she's the gossip. Wendy looks like the kind of girl every sci-fi boy fantasizes would abduct him and do things to. The Creep is an adorable little flying ball of yellow cotton who can only talk coherently in song. Milo is a six armed geeky looking guy who is class president and a bit clumsy as well. Flat Freddy is a kid who is... well... flat. He's a walking pancake.

Then you have the "bad guys" or bullies as it were. They are mainly harmless, and add a lot of comical color in their badness. The Beef is kinda like a giant alien chicken who's only purpose in life seems to be to act macho and mess with Doyle. Roland is kinda like a giant egg that follows the Beef around. Earl is a little blobby thing with eyes that hangs out the Beef gang as well.

Anyway this ensemble cast puts out some pretty funny shows. Personally I think there are fun episodes on volume one, but that shouldn't discount anybody from getting this volueme. Heck... get both. Here are the episodes you will get on this DVD:

8 - Beach Blanket Blow Up: Spring break is here, but the vacation planet's sun is about to go supernova.

9 - Brain Blaster: Doyle gets addicted to a helmet that zaps (or blasts) your brain. This is the GH equivalent to doing a show on cocain addiction and it's done well enough to not get too preachy. It also won an award.

10 - The Brat Pack: Title is definitely a play on 80's pop culture name for a group of teen movie stars. The Beef has to babysit a group of little kids who cause more mayhem than he can handle.

11 - Founder's Day: The gang gets zapped into the past and now have to make sure Galaxy High doesn't end before it begins.

12 - Martian Mumps: Everybody but the humans (and a teacher) get martian mumps and it's up to them to find a cure before it's too late.

13 - It Came from Earth: A parody of those old monster movies where in some alternate reality Doyle becomes a giant rampaging around New York. Funniest line from some Japanese tourists (Kid: "Look! It's Godzilla" Parent: )No my son. This is America. That's Rambo").

You get this volume along with volume one and you have the entire series on DVD. No extras or digital remastering on this disk, but it sure beats trying to find those old VHS tapes.

I love this dvd. It brings back memories of good Saturday morning cartoons. My son even loves this. Now can somebody put the Get-Along-Gang on dvd?

One of the many cartoons I loved as a kid in the 1980's. Galaxy High is a great addition to any 80s fan's collection and even to those who have never seen it!
