Product Description

The Russian artist and photographer Grigori Galitsin was born in Razdelnaya near Odessa at the Black Sea in 1957. He studied classical painting at the art academy in St Petersburg. Today he lives and works in Volgograd. Galitsin's grandfather gave him his first camera, one of the first Leica models, which he'd bought from the German army in 1947. Galitsin soon turned away from academic painting: photography had captured him under its spell. Galitsin was able to pursue entirely new paths when Perestroika arrived and Russia opened to the West in the early 1990s. Like-wise decisive for him was the speedy evolution of the Internet, which enabled him to debut his sensitive, erotic portraits of Russian girls world-wide online in 1996. The success was overwhelming. His photographic style is not a copy of Western patterns, but results instead from his creative and unconventional exploration of one of the most popular themes in art: the depiction of the female body. Although Galitsin's models are all of legal age, his photographs of these young, nymph-like girls radiate an aura of playful innocence and enchanting naturalness. To our great delight, it seems that tattoos and piercing haven't yet found their way to faraway Russia. Grigori Galitsin (www galitsin-news.com) numbers among Russia's foremost contemporary photographers.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Epic Achievement in Artistic Nude Photography!!!, April 26 2005
This review is from: Galitsin's Angels (Hardcover)
I'll say it right now - this is a MASTERPIECE! This is more than a book that was long overdue by one of this generation's truly great artists. It's a breakthrough, a smashing, in-your-face assault. It's the 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band' of nude photography books. It's 144 pages of pure bliss!

Russian photographer Grigori Galitsin is well known to those denizens of the internet who've ventured into the realms of artistic nude photography, perusing such sites as Michelle7.com, Met-Art.com, and Galitsin's own site, Galitsin-News.com. But to see his work in print is a staggering experience. It contains breathtaking images of all the gorgeous models made famous by Galitsin: Valentina, Alice, Julia, Katia, Krista, Liza, Nusia, Olesia, and many more. There is so much energy, so much beauty, it's almost too much to take in one sitting. I'll abstain from an intellectual review of what makes Galistin so special, but if lovers or artistic nudes, youthful beauty, and sensual erotica are looking for a Holy Grail in their genre - this is it. Generations from now, historians will likely view this publication as the most impactful and most influential of the early millennium. Move over Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Gauguin, and make room for Grigori Galitsin.

5.0 out of 5 stars The title...Angels From Russia with Love says it all, July 2 2007
By Russell A. Rohde MD "Owl" - Published on Amazon.com
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
"Galitsin's Angels: From Russia with Love", by Grigori Galitsin, ISBN: 3-934020-34-8 (2005) Edition Reuss, Munich, Germany. HC 144 pgs., Foreword 6 pgs., 126 color plates, 11.25" x 8.25"

The book's ample size, paper quality, binding & color photographs pay tribute to this author. The artist-photographer Grigori Galitsin's portraitures of adolescent girls has termed his subjects "angels" and with good reason. His art-work, long banned in Russia until post-modern times, but just recently again repressed as an acceptable artform, is considered to be Galitsin's finest contribution: offering a uniqe romatic vision of the feminine and innocence.

Unlike much of present day erotic photography that features tattoos, piercing, etc., these inveiglements are notably absent - his models are mostly or seemingly unposed, often with indifferent affectation to the camera, and naked or scantily clad in outdoor surroundings. Liza, of Volgograd Russia, is shown in the kitchen ready to serve a bowl of chili, has exceptional allure as a model and was cited elsewhere as an University of Law student, accomplished pianist, and trained in dance & theatre.

For book collectors of this genre, "Galitsin's Angeles" will be a significant addition - I'd predict it'll become a collector's item and harder to obtain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tribute to youthful beauty, May 8 2008
By wiredweird "wiredweird" - Published on Amazon.com
This collection captures the earliest years of his models' adulthood - if it is infact adulthood. Each model has come into her adult figure, but not yet lost all of a girl's softness of face. That moment in a woman's life has a unique kind of beauty, not wholly distant from childhood's innocence.

These are young adults, though, with adult figures and very adult potential. Things like un-fuzzy grooming reinforce their youth at the same time that curvy figures and genital details emphasize their maturity and mature appeal. Many shots feature lingerie while others show models in plain white undies, another dichotomy that points out the dual character of these models' age group. Yet others show the model and her horse (an archetypal enthusiasm of girls), or simple friendship between girls. Other photos clearly imply that the models share, or wonder about sharing friendship of a more grown-up sort.

The models are undeniably pretty, even if they tend to a sameness of age, coloring, feature, and figure. A slight edge of the forbidden sharpens a viewer's attention, and could well make some people uncomfortable. Well, that ambiguity is real enough, both for young women finding themselves and for the people that encounter them. Galitsin has captured it precisely.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Angels, Aug 2 2011
By James Fox - Published on Amazon.com

This review is from: Galitsin's Angels (Hardcover)
Galitisin's Angels is the first in a series of photo galleries that Mr Galitsin published. He is one of the great photographers of our era,and his spcialty is very young girls, trying to capture the very first awakening of sensuality. His wife,Irina Galitsinya, who models under the name Valentina, is a very slender model with brown hair, who is nearly blind,as can be noticed from her unfocused gaze and is a somewhat older professional model who appears on the cover of the book embracing a very young model named Julia in the middle of the Russian steppe. She also appears in a number of other shots, usually with a younger model to help, but the two center pages are Irina on her own in the center of a rockfall, showing she is still a great model.
The younger models, inexperienced but expertly coached by Mr and Mrs Galitsin, deliver performances of incredible beauty, grace, and very often awakening innocence.I would recommend this book very highly to anyone interested in glamor, or pure art, photography.
