1.0 out of 5 stars Where was the Editor when this one slipped through the net?, Feb 6 2002

This review is from: A Gambling Man (Paperback)
I liked the title and the back cover blurb so I thought, yes, I'll read this book, it should be good. Well IT IS NOT GOOD!

It is one of the most badly written romance novels I have ever had the misfortune to pay good money for, and I persevered right through to the end to make sure I got my money's worth.

Truth to tell, the book improves about 2 thirds of the way through, but most normal people would have given up well before then.

I would recommend the author to read a lot of current romance novels so that she realises that her characterisations are very lack lustre and wooden, and her writing of the dialogue of the children in the book is terrible, completely unrealistic.

The main characters have no tension between them - romantic or sexual - and the reasons they get together at all are glossed over.

I cannot understand any editor allowing something of this poor quality to be published - when you compare this to your average Mills & Boon, most of those novels are much better written, with at least some semblance of logic to the plot and characters that you can feel SOMETHING for.

I would say to anyone considering buying this book - save your money, or try reading something by Linda Howard, Debbie Macomber, Lavyrle Spencer, Catherine Cookson - now that's good writing!
