When I bought these I thought I was getting the films from the 60's and 70's. Ends up these films were made in the late 90's. If you like Godzilla films you should like these. We still get the men in the giant rubber suites but with CGI it looks a lot better.
The first film is good. It borrows a bit from Mothra but that can be forgiven. The story that drives the film kept my interest.
The second film is the weakest of the set. Watchable but I don't see it getting much repeated viewing.
The third film is the best. Good story. Better plot but it is the first half of the story and there is no fourth film in the collection. Thankfully it is being released this month on it's own.
You can't beat getting three films for around $15 on Blu ray. The prints are great. Colours are very sharp. Technically they did a perfect job on these Blu Rays.
Like I mentioned if you like Godzilla or Kink Kong movies this should be up your alley. If you think those films are stupid stay away!

first, blu ray in great shape - sound and picture. Japanese w/ english subtitles. before you buy - do you like 'b' sci fi? creature features? the first film features gemara ( a flying turtle-like critter) saving humanity from the gyaos (tersdactyle-like creatures) who are unleashed on the world because humanity has not taken care of the environment. In the '50's Gojjira/Godzilla was unleashed on the world as a result of the a-bomb. in the'90's the gyaos are unleashed because of the lack of an ozone layer. there the similarity ends. both have decent plots, but gamera is the guardian of humanity sent to save us from our foolishness. if you are a fan of creature features you will know the gyaos are bad cause of their gleaming red eyes - dead giveaway. interestingly. the human 'star' is female. suprising for a very male-dominated culture.

i'm not a fan of sequels and gamera 2 only confirms my dislike. here big bugs invade earth and gamera rescues us again. of course he wipes out more japanese villages, but he's only a well-meaning clumsy turtle. boring.

gamera 3 improves adding a legendary red phynix(sp?) w/ a female counter-part who hates gamera, our female lead and gamera are resurrected along w/ other cast members from the first film. gamera again has to fight the gyaos and this red-eyed bird, too. the japanese have mixed feelings about gamera - he is a monster who destroys cities - one side. he is the saviour of humanity - the other side. this conflict makes the picture interesting. nothing competes w/ gojira, but this isn't half-bad and the colour is vivid.

the exeption being the third one (which has a BRILLIANT concept that is sadly pulled into the wrong dirrections making a good movie where it could have been a thing of beauty). But the other two, things of bliss for monster fans. The first one sets gamera up great, sets up gaos great, and has beautifully done actions scenes. The second one has a great plot involving aliens (because aliens are always fun in monster movies, especially the good ones), with great sets, great action, and one of the coolest monster designs of all time, belonging to the monster with the coolest name of all time, legion (i just love the way it sounds). Those two movies alone are worth the relativelly low price for these movies, but you also get the third one, which isn't bad by any stretch, it just could have been done a heck of allot better.

Good little collection of films. Pretty sweet production value and the HD makes it look really good. I was reminded a few times during the movies that they were made in the mid to late 90's by Walkman players and old computers, but the resolution and picture quality makes them look like they were made in the past few years. It isn't a boxed set with 3 separate cases for each movie. The first 2 movies are on one disc with the 3rd on its' own all in one Bul-Ray case. I'd still recommend the series for people who like Gamera (or any Kaiju) movies.
